THE RUNDOWN
LAWRENCE, Kan.
- Baylor (17-28, 6-13) was shutout 2-0 in its series opener at Kansas (20-26, 7-9) Friday night at Hoglund Ballpark. A pitchers' duel between BU's Drew Tolson and KU's Ben Krauth went in Krauth's favor.

The Bears had a really good chance against Krauth in the first inning but were unable to cash in. Adam Toth reached on a one-out wild pitch strikeout, Duncan Wendel doubled and Mitch Price walked to load the bases. Unfortunately, Aaron Dodson struck out and Matt Menard flied out to end the threat.

In the bottom half of the first, Kansas had a walk reach second with two outs and Michael Tinsley delivered the hit that was the difference in the game for a 1-0 Jayhawks lead.

From that point, Krauth retired 12 more batters in a row and received another run of support in the sixth on a Dakota Smith RBI single that scored Connor McKay after a leadoff double.

Baylor had scoring chances in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings but was again not able to scratch a run.

Krauth (7-3) earned the win as he threw 7.1 scoreless innings while allowing four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. Stephen Villines struck out all five batters he faced over the final 1.2 innings to pick up his 12th save. Tolson (3-7) took a tough luck loss, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks with one strikeout in eight innings.

NOTES
*Baylor leads the all-time series vs. Kansas 46-17 overall, 41-17 under Steve Smith and 17-11 in Lawrence. Last season, the Jayhawks swept the Bears in Waco on April 25-27, 2014, to give KU a six-game winning streak in the series. BU then avenged the sweeps by ending the Jayhawks' run in the Big 12 Championship as No. 7 seed BU won 4-3 in an elimination game over No. 3 seed KU on May 22, 2014, in Oklahoma City. Baylor has won 13 of the 18 all-time Big 12 series between the teams.

*Baylor is 3-15 on the road and 3-18 away from Baylor Ballpark this season.

*As one of the league's founding members in 1997, Baylor owns a 494-562-4 record against the current members of the Big 12 Conference and a 274-222 all-time record in regular season play.

*Baylor is 137-129 in May/June under Steve Smith and 0-1 this year.

*Baylor has won four of its 10 three-game series in 2015 and 21 of 43 since 2012.

*Baylor turned its first triple play since April 11, 2014, at Dallas Baptist - the play came in the fourth inning with Kansas runners on first and second as BU third baseman Duncan Wendel fielded, touched third, threw to second baseman Steven McLean, who threw to first baseman Aaron Dodson to complete the trifecta.

*Adam Toth has reached base in his last seven games.

*Duncan Wendel has a hit in his last three games as he had his 10th multi-hit game.

STAT OF THE GAME
3 - The amount of outs recorded by Baylor in the fourth inning on one swing of a Kansas bat for the Bears' second triple play in as many years.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"[Drew Tolson] was really good. I mean, the pitch count and everything he did was really good. He had to pitch out of some adversity. For the triple play to happen you have to get the right pitch and get it right where we wanted it, and we did. And then next inning he really did the same thing - pitched out of first and second with no outs. The problem was not on the mound tonight. We had our chances early and we just couldn't get the hit." - Baylor head coach Steve Smith

WHAT'S NEXT
