TEMPE, ARIZ. -
The 14th-ranked Baylor men's golf team shot 2-under-par 558 in Friday's first two rounds of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational to finish the day in second place.

The Bears are 14 strokes behind tournament leader Arizona State (-16) heading into Saturday's final round. Baylor is one stroke in front of Iowa State (-1) in third place, followed by UC Davis (+6) and San Diego (+8).

Nick Thornton, who is competing as an individual, is tied for third place at 3-under 137 after shooting 2-under 68 and 1-under 69. Andreas Gjesteby is in a tie for fifth place at 2-under par after posting an opening round 4-under 66 followed by a 2-over 72 in the second round. Kyle Jones is tied for seventh place at 1-under after shooting even-par 70 and 1-under 69.

Frederik Andersen shot even-par in the first two rounds to finish the day in a tie for 10th place. Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen is in a tie for 15th place at 1-over after posting an opening round 2-over 72 followed by a second round score of 1-under 69. Filippo Zucchetti finished the day in a tie for 47th place at 6-over-par.

HIGHLIGHTS
? Four of six Baylor players shot 1-under 69 in the second round.
? Bjerch-Andresen and Thornton both eagled the 14th hole in the opening round, accounting for two the nine eagles made by the field during the first day.
? Baylor leads the field in par-3 scoring average at 3.05 over the first two rounds.
? Jones is second in par-3 scoring with an average of 2.75.
? Gjesteby's bogey-free opening round 66 was the second-lowest score posted in the first round of play.
? All six Baylor players combined for a total of 8-under par on hole No. 14 in the opening round, including four birdies and two eagles.

STAT OF THE ROUND
27 - The number of pars Gjesteby made in 36 holes, which were the most made by any player in the 78-player field.

WHAT'S NEXT
Tee times for Saturday's final round begin at 11 a.m. CT. Baylor is paired with Arizona State and Iowa State, and the group will tee off on hole No. 1 with Zucchetti up first, followed by Bjerch-Andresen, Andersen, Jones and Gjesteby in nine-minute intervals, respectively.
