Final Stats

THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas
- Baylor (17-25, 6-11) lost a tough game to Kansas State (20-22, 7-11), 6-3, Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark. The Wildcats scored two in the eighth and three in the ninth to grab a late win and take the series.

Baylor had everything going the way it needed early on but didn't take full advantage of a great first inning scoring chance. After Kameron Esthay's RBI single and Mitch Price's RBI double, a pitching change and intentional walk loaded the bases with one out for Cameron Miller. Unfortunately, Miller struck out and Hayden Ross followed with a fly out to end the rally with a 2-0 lead.

After a 35-minute lightning delay in the top of the second inning, neither team scored until KSU's sixth. Steve Serratore roped a two-out RBI double off BU starter Daniel Castano to make it a 2-1 game.

An inning later, the Bears got the run back as Ross doubled to start the inning and Ben Carl drove him in with a two-out single.

Baylor then turned to Brad Kuntz in the eighth to try to finish the game but he just didn't have it. After walking his first two batters, a fielder's choice and error allowed a run to score. Then Kuntz hit two straight batters to load the bases and walked the next one to force in a run before getting back-to-back strikeouts to escape with a 3-3 tie.

BU spoiled a one-out Aaron Dodson double in the eighth, and then KSU led off the ninth with a double off Kuntz. Troy Montemayor came on to replace Kuntz but gave up a bunt single and sac fly to give KSU a 4-3 lead. Another fielder's choice error let the second run score, and two plays later, a two-out bunt drove in the third run for a 6-3 Wildcats lead.

The Bears brought the tying run up in the ninth after Adam Toth and Esthay singled with two outs, but both were left stranded after Price flied out to center.

KSU reliever Jordan Floyd (3-2) earned the win after giving up no runs on one hit and walk in one inning. Brandon Courville picked up his first save, allowing two hits with one strikeout in a scoreless ninth. Kuntz (0-1) took the loss, surrendering three runs on one hit and three walks with two strikeouts in one-plus inning.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"When Ben [Carl] got that run-scoring hit in the seventh after they intentionally walked ahead of him, that's a kick to the gut. How are you going to respond to that? I think it's pretty clear how they responded to it. The first inning to me was the big one. We didn't get it done and had their guy on the mound in trouble." - Baylor head coach Steve Smith

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor heads on a four-game road trip, starting with a 6 p.m. CT game at UTSA Tuesday before a three-game road series at Kansas next weekend.
