THE RUNDOWN
The top-ranked and top-seeded Baylor Acrobatics & Tumbling team (11-0) defeated the Azusa Pacific Cougars (3-5), Saturday morning to advance to the program's first-ever NCATA Championship finals. The Bears downed the Cougars 287.915-280.430, at Fairmont State's Joe Retton Arena in Fairmont, W.Va.
Baylor's meet total of 287.195 was the team's highest of the season, beating its 285.675, achieved vs. Azusa Pacific on March 28.
This marks the Bears' first NCATA finals appearance after begin eliminated in the semifinals in three of its four previous NCATA semifinals matches. In its three previous semifinals appearances (2011, '12, '14), Baylor had been eliminated by eventual national champion Oregon.
Baylor will vie for the national championship, taking on No. 3 Oregon, the championship final will begin at 6 p.m. (CT) tonight.
The Bears led the Cougars, 98.05-97.60, at halftime. The Two teams tied in the compulsory (38.50) and pyramid (29.85) but BU gained and edge in acro (29.7-29.25) to take a lead going into the brea.
As usual, the Bears built on their lead after the break, scoring 29.05 of a possible 29.50 points in toss and accumulating 58.675 points in tumbling.
Baylor finished off the meet in style by breaking the 100 point mark for the fifth time this season with a 102.14 while Azusa Pacific managed 99.13.

? After posting a 9.95 in yesterday's tumbling aerial pass, sophomore Kiara Nowlin neared nailed today's performance with a 10.0. ? Allie Williams, Shayla Moore, Kiara Nowlin, Miranda Girouard, Lauren Sturm, Alexa Crumpton and Courtney Pate received a 10.0 in pyramid's heat 2. ? For the second straight day, the team of Toni Bronisevsky, Shayla Moore, Britta Pierce, Danielle Hardman, Brandi Hanford, Bresha Pierce, Sydney Evans, Lauren Sturm, Alexa Crumpton, Devin White, Molly Gibbons, Kaelyn Cowan, Courtney Pate, Keegan Johnson and Ally Cheatham scored a perfect 10 in the pyramid heat of the Compulsory Event. ? In the acro 5 element, the team of Toni Bronisevsky, Kaelyn Cowan, Ally Cheatham, Madison Sorley and Alexa Crumpton posted a 10.0.
