Final Stats

THE RUNDOWN
SAN MARCOS, Texas
- Baylor (12-17) lost on a walk-off home run in the 10th inning to Texas State (13-15-1) Thursday evening at Bobcat Ballpark.

After rallying to take an 8-6 lead with a five-run eighth inning, Baylor was unable to hang on as the Bobcats played long ball to earn the win. In the eighth off Joe Kirkland, Granger Studdard launched a solo homer to cut the BU lead to one. To lead off the ninth, Derek Scheible hit a solo homer of his own to tie the game. Then in the 10th off Spicer, Studdard struck again with a walk-off blast.

The Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second after a Matt Menard RBI single, but Texas State answered in the bottom half with two runs on three walks, one hit and a sacrifice fly. BU tied the game in the fifth with a Logan Brown RBI single.

In the sixth, Texas State rallied to take the lead with three runs on three singles and two walks.

BU cut into the lead with a West Tunnell RBI infield single in the seventh. However, the Bobcats countered with a two-out triple and single to keep a three-run lead.

In Baylor's big eighth, Aaron Dodson started it with an infield single. An out later, he scored on Kameron Esthay's RBI double and Matt Menard and Levi Gilcrease followed with RBI singles to tie the game. Following a Steven McLean hit-and-run single, Gilcrease scored on a passed ball. With two outs, Hayden Ross delivered an insurance run with an RBI single but it went for naught after the Bobcats went to the power game.

Bobcats reliever Joe Powell (2-3) earned the win after throwing 2.1 scoreless innings while giving up just one hit. Spicer (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in one-plus innings. BU starter Daniel Castano took a no-decision, surrendering four runs on four hits and six walks with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
