April 17, 2015 NORMAN, Okla. - Baylor men's golf senior Kyle Jones has been chosen to represent the Unites States in the upcoming Palmer Cup, as announced Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Jones joins Ryan Baca (2006) as the only BU players ever named to the Palmer Cup.
Both the United States team and the Europe team were revealed on Golf Channel's Morning Drive. The annual Ryder Cup-style match will be played June 12-14 at Rich Harvest Farms outside Sugar Grove, Ill.
Jones, who is ranked 10th nationally in the latest GolfStat player rankings, was one of the three players selected by the committee to be a member of the United States team. He has placed among the top 15 individuals in all 10 regular season events during the 2014-15 season.
Jones leads Baylor with a 70.24 stroke average and has shot par or better in 22 of 29 rounds during his senior season. He won the 2015 UTSA Oak Hills Invitational, becoming the event's first-ever three-time winner, and he's finished among the top four individuals in seven of 10 tournaments during the 2014-15 season.
A Snowflake, Ariz., native, Jones joins Ryan Baca as the only Baylor players ever selection to play in the Palmer Cup. Baca was on the United States team in 2006.
Jones joins a Team USA roster that includes Anders Albertson (Georgia Tech), Beau Hossler (Texas), Jack Maguire (Florida State), Lee McCoy (Georgia), Maverick McNealy (Stanford), Ollie Schniederjans (Georgia Tech), Robby Shelton (Alabama), Hunter Stewart (Vanderbilt) and Carr Vernon (Cal State Monterey Bay). Team USA will be coached by Georgia Tech's Bruce Heppler, and he'll be assisted by Pacific's Chris Hill.
