WACO, Texas - The No. 2 seeded Baylor equestrian team advanced to the semifinals of the NCEA championship Friday with a dramatic comeback win against No. 10 Oklahoma State. The Bears came back from a 6-2 deficit to tie the Cowgirls 8-8 and took the win in a raw-scores tiebreaker.
Down 8-4, Baylor's horsemanship team needed to score all four remaining points to force a tie to see if BU could advance on a tiebreaker.
The Bears team of Gillian Chant, Lacy Watson, Parris Rice and Mary Brown all defeated their Cowgirl counterparts consecutively to tie the score, and Baylor went on to defeat OSU 2,402.0-2,316.5 in the raw-score tiebreaker.
The meet began with the Bears and Cowgirls tying in flat 2-2 before OSU took a strong advantage with a 4-0 sweep in reining. After a tie in equitation over fences, 2-2, that set up Baylor's horsemanship heroics.
The Bears will take on No. 3 South Carolina in the semifinals Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Extraco Center in Waco. The winner of that matchup will advance to the final to take place Saturday afternoon. In their only previous matchup this season, Baylor lost to South Carolina March 6 on the road, 12-6.
The other semifinal matchup will feature No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 5 Auburn. Georgia defeated K-State 10-5 and Auburn defeated Texas A&M 9-6 in the quarterfinals.

THEY SAID IT
Baylor Head Coach Ellen White on Baylor's win...
"That was a nail biter, and I'm so glad we pulled that out. The fact that we just did that against a strong Western team is pretty phenomenal. We definitely dug ourselves in a hole, we needed every point to make it happen, and we did it. You don't get a team like that every day that will fight like that when they're down. We definitely have stuff to clean up tomorrow. We gave them points in the beginning, so tomorrow we have to make sure we're ready to be serious. But I think we're in a good spirit and a good state of mind to make this happen tomorrow."
