BAYLOR VS. OKLAHOMA SERIES
Oklahoma leads the all-time series vs. Baylor 41-39, 35-29 under Steve Smith but the Bears own a 25-15 edge in Waco. On May 2-4, 2014, last season the Bears took two of three in Norman, Oklahoma, for their first series win in Norman since 2000. BU has won 10 of the 18 all-time Big 12 series between the two, including each of the last two series.
Logan Brown NAMED ONE OF 30 CANDIDATES FOR 2015 SENIOR CLASS AWARD
Baylor senior outfielder Logan Brown was named one of 30 candidates for the baseball 2015 Senior CLASS Award, Premier Sports Management announced March 24.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The Rowlett, Texas, native is one of four players in the Big 12 represented among the candidates. A model student-athlete, Brown is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team honoree, 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District VII first team and five-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection while majoring in electrical engineering. He is one of the team's best leaders and is very involved with the community as he makes yearly visits to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Houston, works with Feed My Starving Children, visits elementary schools in Waco to read and interact with children and even helped with OKC Goodwill's recovery efforts after the nasty tornado ripped through Moore, Okla., two years ago.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2015 College World Series® in June.
FRESH FACES SETTING THE PACE
Partially due to injuries, Baylor's underclassmen have 55 percent of the team's at-bats and 64 percent of the team's innings pitched. The Bears' team leaders in homers (Aaron Dodson), slugging percentage (Dodson, .448), doubles (Darryn Sheppard, 8), ERA (Daniel Castano, 2.35), wins (Theron Kay, 3) and innings pitched (Drew Tolson, 37.2) are all underclassmen.
BAYLOR BALLPARK'S HOME SWEET HOME ADVANTAGE
Since the park opened in 1999, Baylor owns a 374-158 record at Baylor Ballpark and has never had a losing season in the stadium. The closest BU came to a losing season was in 2011, when the Bears were 16-14 at Baylor Ballpark. Since 2012, BU has won 15 of its 20 home series. The Bears are 8-4 at home this year and have won all three series thus far (3-0 vs. No .13 Cal Poly | 2-1 vs. Kent State | 2-1 vs. WVU).
BAYLOR AGAINST THE BIG 12 CONFERENCE
As one of the league's founding members in 1997, Baylor owns a 490-553-4 record against the current members of the Big 12 Conference. The Bears own a 270-213 all-time record in regular season play. BU's all-time record against current league foes is as follows: Kansas (46-17), Kansas State (42-21), Oklahoma (39-41), Oklahoma State (37-39), TCU (139-119), Texas (105-234-4), Texas Tech (77-78) and West Virginia (4-4).
