Men's Golf Jumps to Fifth at Bayou City Collegiate

THE RUNDOWN
HUMBLE, Texas -
The No. 6-ranked Baylor men's golf team shot 3-under-par 285 in Saturday's second round at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship, launching the Bears up four spots into fifth place entering Sunday's final round.

The Bears improved their score by 12 strokes from the first round and sit at 6-over-par 582 through 36 holes. BU is three strokes behind fourth place Charlotte at 3-under, six strokes behind third place Arkansas at even-par and seven strokes behind second place Sam Houston State at 1-under. South Carolina leads the field by 10 strokes after shooting a second round score of 13-under par. Baylor's 285 was the third-best score of the day, trailing only South Carolina's 275 and SHSU's 280.

Kyle Jones shot 3-under in the second round to move up 15 spots into a tie for fifth place individually at 2-under 142. Nick Thornton, who is competing as an individual, moved up 41 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 28th place after posting a career-low round of 3-under 69.

Andreas Gjesteby shot even-par and is in a tie for 21st place with a 36-hole score of 2-over 146. Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen and Filippo Zucchetti again finished the round in a tie after posting second round scores of even-par, placing them in a tie for 28th place at 3-over 147. Frederik Andersen improved by three strokes from the first round, shooting 3-over par and finishing the day in a tie for 68th place at 11-over 153.

HIGHLIGHTS
? Jones ranks second the field in number of pars made at 28 after making 13 pars and four birdies in the second round.
? Thornton shot a clean round with three birdies and 15 pars, which moved him into a tie for fifth-most pars in the tournament with 27 over 36 holes.
? Gjesteby also is tied for the fifth-most pars made in two rounds after making 14 pars in the second round.
? Five of six Baylor players birdied hole No. 12 in the second round.
? Bjerch-Andresen had five birdies in the second round, which were the most made by any Baylor player in the first two rounds.

STAT OF THE ROUND
123 - The number of pars made by Baylor players through two rounds of play, which remained tied for most in the 15-team field.

WHAT'S NEXT
Due to an improved weather forecast for Sunday, the tournament will proceed as originally planned. Sunday's final round will be played as a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT. Jones tees off on hole No. 5, while Gjesteby, Zucchetti, Bjerch-Andresen and Andersen begin on holes 7-10, respectively. Thornton will tee off on hole No. 17.
