BRILES' UNIQUE SYSTEM IS AMERICA'S TOP OFFENSE
Art Briles' unique, record-breaking offense is leading the nation in total offense (604.6) and scoring (48.0) through 12 games, after also having led in both each of the past two seasons - total offense (581.5 ypg 2014, 618.8 ypg 2013) and scoring (48.2 ppg 2014, 52.4 ppg 2013). Baylor's offense is the only one in the country to rank among the top-four in total offense each of the last four years.
THE BRILES OFFENSE: à ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € A unique, up-tempo spread attack with origins in Bill Yeoman's `Houston Veer' (perhaps most identifiable by wide splits of receivers and a power running game), Art Briles has honed his offensive system over the past four decades as a high school and collegiate coach; it's a balanced offense, not to be confused with more common pass-heavy spread attacks. The Briles offense was also in use at Bowling Green (now Syracuse head coach Dino Babers) and Tulsa (head coach Philip Montgomery) under former Briles assistants in 2015. In the latest NCAAà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € statistics, those three programs, Baylor (604.6), Bowling Green (561.0) and Tulsa (502.8) are first, fourth and 14th respectively in total offense.
BIGà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € 12'S TOPà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € TEAMà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € SINCEà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € 2013
En route to back-to-back Big 12 titles, the Bears racked up matching 8-1 league records. That combined record of 16-2, plus this year's 6-3 mark is far and away tops in the Big 12 since the start of 2013.
THEà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € NATION'S MOSTà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € BALANCEDà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € OFFENSE
Currently, Baylor is one of only two teams in the nation to be ranked in the top 20 in both passing (20th, 304.4) and rushing offense (4th, 300.2). Baylor has ranked among the nation's top 15 in both rushing and passing yards in three of the past four years. Additionally, BU has rushed on more than 54 percent of plays over the last four seasons.
BUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € ATà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € ITSà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € BESTà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € POST-HALLOWEEN
Baylor has compiled a 22-7 mark in games after October 31 since 2011 (16-4 in Nov., 6-1 in Dec., 0-2 in Jan.). Included in those games is a 9-6 record vs. APà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € Top 25 teams (wins over No. 5 OU in 2011, No. 2 K-State, No. 23 Oklahoma State and No. 17 UCLA in 2012, No. 12 Oklahoma and No. 23 Texas in 2013, No. 16 Oklahoma and No. 9 Kansas State in 2014, No. 4 Oklahoma State in 2015). Baylor's 22 wins in the months of November and December since 2011 is a FBS-best.
INJURY BUG BITES QB POSITION HARD
After season-ending injuries to QBs Seth Russell and Jarrett Stidham, third-year sophomore Chris Johnson of Bryan, Texas, started the Texas game and was sidelined in the first quarter with an injury. Johnson did not return to action, but he is listed as BU's starter heading in to the bowl game. Johnson entered the Oklahoma State game at halftime for injured starter Jarrett Stidham, completing 5-of-10 passes for 138 yards and 2 TDs. He also ran the ball six times for 42 yards and one score to seal the BUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € win in Stillwater. In his first career start at TCUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € in a rain storm, Johnson completed just 7-of-24 passes for 62 yards and 1 TD. After moving to WRà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € during 2015 fall camp, Johnson returned to the QBà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € position after Seth Russell went down with a neck injury in the Iowa State contest. Johnson was a 2013 early enrollee at BUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € and redshirted the 2013 season. He played in four games in 2014, totaling 28 yards on 4-of-4 passing. He also ran the ball four times for 29 yards. In early season wide receiver play in 2015, Johnson caught three passes for 37 yards.
OWNINGà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € THEà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € LONEà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € STARà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € STATE
Baylor has racked up a 19-5 record vs. in-state foes over the last four-plus years, including victories in 12 of its last 14 meetings with other Texas schools. The Bears have also been successful against any opponent when the game has been played in the Lone Star State, boasting a 27-4 record over its last 31 games and a 38-7 mark in contests over the last four-plus years in Texas.
BAYLOR'S POWERFUL OFFENSE ALSO CRAZY FAST
Baylor is continuing a three-year period of dominance in scoring quickly. In 2015, BU leads the nation in TDà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € drives of two minutes or less (47), fewest seconds per play (17.5) in the first half and TDà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € throws of 25 or more yards downfield (16), while being second with 83.4 plays per game. Baylorà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € is third in the FBSà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € with 19 TDà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € drives in under one minute. In 2014, Baylor led the nation in plays/gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € (87.5), TD drives of one min. or lessà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € (24), TD drives of two min. or less (41) and fewest seconds-per-play in the first halfà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € (18.0). The Bears also led the NCAA in TDs of 40 or more yards (19) and TDà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € throws of 25 or more yardsà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € (24). In 2013, Baylor led the nation in seconds-per-playà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € (16.7), TD drives of one minute or less (29), TD drives of two minutes or lessà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € (60) and most plays of 40 yards or more (37). - Baylor last played a current ACC school on Sept. 5, 2009 -- a 24-21 win at Wake Forest.
BAYLOR'S RETURN TO PROMINENCE UNDER BRILES
It's no secret that Art Briles has rebuilt Baylor's football program back to national prominence, but most impressive is how quickly and pronounced the transformation happened (Briles is third on the BUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € career wins list).
THREE BEARSà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € EARNà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € ALL-AMERICAà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € HONORS
Baylor had three players earn All-America honors, including two unanimous All-Americans in senior offensive tackle Spencer Drango and junior wide receiver Corey Coleman. It was the first time in school history that BUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € a pair of players had earned unanimous status in the same season. Meanwhile, junior NTà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € Andrew Billings was recognized on nine different teams. In eight seasons, head coach Art Briles has coached 26 All-America selections. [complete list of honors on pages 6-8]
RUNà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € GAMEà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € ROLLINGà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € FORà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € BEARSà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € INà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € 2015
By rushing for over 270 yards in 10 of 12 games this season, Baylor is fourth in the country averaging 300.4 yards per contest on the ground. BU's rushing attack was led by Shock Linwood 1,329 yds. on 196 carries with 10 TDs. However, the junior, who was torching defenses for 6.8 yards per carry and 110.8 yards per game will miss the bowl game due to injury. The Bears' punishing rushing game has now produced 1,000-yard rushers in six straight seasons: Jay Finley in 2010 (1,218), Terrance Ganaway in 2011 (school-record 1,547), Lache Seastrunk in 2012 (1,012) and 2013 (1,060)à ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € and Shock Linwood in 2014 (1,135) and 2015.
VETERAN O-LINE PROTECTING NEW QB, POWERINGà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € RUNà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € GAME
Baylor's offensive line has six linemen with 18 or more career starts (Spencer Drango 47, Kyle Fuller 25, Blake Muir 24, Jarell Broxton 20, Pat Colbert 19, Desmine Hilliard 18). The 2015 line leads the Big 12 and ranks 20th in the nation by giving up just 15 sacks in 12 games (1.25 per game). That veteran group has also helped BU become the nation's No. 4 rushing offense with 300.4 yards per game. The group was named a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award, which recognizes the country's top o-line unit, on Nov. 16.
SACKS-PER-GAME ALLOWED:
2015: 1.25 (15 for 86 yds in 12 games)

2012: 1.46 (19 for 92 yds in 13 games)
2011: 2.23 (29 for 175 yds in 13 games)
TURNOVERSà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € PROVINGà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € COSTLY
After starting out the year by winning the turnover battle in seven of eight games, the Bears have now turned it over more times than their opponent in each of the last four games. The Bears have gained 24 turnovers in 2015, while gifting 25. However over the past four games, BUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € is trailing 15-3 in the turnover category.
COLEMANà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € TOà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € MISSà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € BOWLà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € GAMEà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € AFTER TALLYINGà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € HISTORIC NUMBERS
Biletnikoff Award winner Corey Coleman was having one of the top seasons in college football, but will now miss the Russell Athletic Bowl due to injury. The junior from Richardson, Texas, caught 74 passes for 1,363 yards and 20 touchdowns in 12 games. He broke the BUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € single-season record for receiving touchdowns (14, Kendall Wright in 2011) and challenged the Big 12 and NCAAà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € records in the category.
OPPORTUNISTICà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € DEFENSE
Baylor's defense under coordinator Phil Bennett has demonstrated a knack for making big plays at key moments to contribute to the Bears' winning ways over the past four-plus seasons. BUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € had led the nation by forcing a turnover in 25-straight games before not getting one against Oklahoma State. In four-plus years under Bennett, Baylor's D has recorded at least one takeaway in 57 of 64 games - a total of 133 takeaways (79 interceptions, 54 fumbles recovered). Overall under Bennett, Baylor is 35-6 when recording two or more takeaways, including 7-1 in 2015.
BUà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € LEADINGà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € NATION INà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € 50-POINTà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € GAMESà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € SINCEà ¢Ã¢' ¬Ã‹ € 2013
