WACO, Texas - Acrobatics and Tumbling head coach Felecia Mulkey announced her squad's 2016 schedule Monday, marking its sixth year competing in the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA) and second under Mulkey. The Bears will compete in six regular season events, including three home events and one tri-meet, before hosting the NCATA National Championships.
"Our goal this year is to represent Baylor University to the best of our ability," Mulkey said. "This approach worked out well for us last year. We want to better ourselves every practice and every meet and hopefully peak at the right time."
The Bears look to defend their national championship and are set to start off the 2016 season on Feb. 14 at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. The Bears then travel back to Waco for two straight home meets beginning on Feb. 21 versus Oregon and March 6 against Alderson-Broaddus.
With 28 letterwinners returning and 13 newcomers, Mulkey's team will start the final stretch of the season on the road on March 11 against Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Bears will then compete in a tri-meet against Adrian College and Fairmont State in Waco on March 14. BU will wrap up its regular season on the road on April 1 versus Oregon in Eugene, Ore., before heading back to Waco for the NCATA Championships on April 16-19.
The 2016 NCATA Championship makes the second time Baylor has hosted the event, the Bears were the tournament hosts in 2012.
