WACO, Texas - After an impressive performance against the defending national champions, South Carolina, 3rd-ranked Baylor Equestrian (6-1, 2-1 Big 12) will travel to Dallas to face No. 10 SMU (2-4, 1-1 UEC) in its last meet of the fall.
Head Coach Ellen White sees this meet as an opportunity to make last-minute adjustments as the team gets ready for the conference and national championships in the spring.
"This is affirmation time," said White. "This is the time to decide who I am going to develop and start to work in. We've got to start getting ready for the championships and to get those riders all the experience they can get."
In the preseason, SMU defeated Baylor in a scrimmage, with the match being decided on a tiebreaker score after both teams earned 11 points. During the scrimmage, both teams were able to get their freshmen riders an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the team competition format.
"What we (both teams) were really doing was putting in our freshmen, so we can see how they compete," said White.
Despite the unfamiliarity with SMU's horses, Coach White is confident the team is going to be able to post a solid performance.
"They have a lot of new horses that we have never seen before," said Coach White. "I am very confident in the girls that have been competing for us, because they really know how to read a horse quickly."
