THE RUNDOWN
STILLWATER, Oklahoma-- After grinding out two tiebreaker wins, No. 3 Baylor Equestrian (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) suffered its first loss of the season, falling to No. 5 Oklahoma State (3-2, 2-0), 13-7, on Saturday at the Totusek Arena.
The Cowgirls took an early lead on fences, 3-2, with Brittney Mirkov and Savannah Jenkins recording points for the Bears.
In horsemanship, OSU pushed their lead to 7-3, posting a 4-1 mark in the event. Freshman Kaylee Mellott posted the sole point for BU.
The Bears bounced back on the flat, pushing the match back to 9-6 with a solid event score of 3-2. Paige Parker, Alicia Gasser, and Jenkins claimed the points for the Bears.
OSU showed its western prowess as the teams transitioned into reining, with the Cowgirls taking a 4-1 advantage in the event over BU.
Although the two squads split hunter seat 5-5, it was western that proved to be the difference maker, with OSU besting Baylor by an 8-2 margin.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Alicia Gasser secured the MOP honors on the flat.
- Savannah Jenkins won MOP honors in equitation over fences.
