WACO, Texas - With the Baylor equestrian season less than three weeks away, several of the student-athletes on the Bears' squad kept busy at independent events, keeping sharp for the 2014-15 season.

Veterans Samantha Schaefer and Emily Reder competed in various horse shows while newcomers Charlotte Green, Abby Jorgensen, Lindsey Valdiviez, Brittney Mirkov and Michelina Carbone competed in the offseason as well.

Below is a summary of each athlete's accomplishments this summer:

Incoming freshman Charlotte Green:

- AQHA Youth World Show in Oklahoma City. Was a finalist (top 15) in horsemanship out of 192 of the best youth competitors in the world. Also top 10 in the Ranch Horse Pleasure out of 133 entries.

Incoming freshman Abby Jorgensen:

-Champion in the Older Large Juniors at Showpark on a catch ride

-Back to back wins in the Washington Jumper and Hunter Phases, as well as the overall at the Bend Horse Show in Bend, Oregon

-Undefeated in the big equitation classes throughout the second week of showing at Bend, winning the Washington, USEF Medal and the Maclay

-Winner of the CPHA Foundation Medal at the Menlo Horse Show

-Qualified for Maclay Regionals, USEF Medal Finals, CPHA Foundation Finals

Incoming Freshman Lindsey Valdiviez:

-Currently #1 in Missouri in the 14-18 division for APHA and #2 in APHA Zone 5

-Currently APHA's #8 Youth in the nation, Ranked #11 in horsemanship and #9 for Hunt Seat Equitation

-Earned APHA Youth Championship Award this summer

-Circuit Champion in the Youth Horsemanship at the Holiday Classic

Incoming Freshman Brittney Mirkov:

-2nd in the Maclay at the Lake Placid Horse Show

-5th in the USHJA Hunter Derby at the Lake Placid Horse Show

-Champion in the 3'3" Junior Hunters at the 78th Annual Sussex County Horse Show

-Reserve Champion in the 3'6" Open Equitation at the 78th Annual Sussex County Horse Show

-Qualified for Maclay Regionals and USEF Medal Finals

Returning Junior Emily Reder:

-6th in the Low AO Jumper Classic out of 40 at Kentucky Spring I

-2nd in the Low AO Jumper Classic out of 35 at Kentucky Spring II

-Reserve Champion in the Low AOs at the Country Heir Horse Show Week II

-Champion in the Low AOs at Horse Shows by the Bay Week III

-Reserve Champion in the Low AOs at Horse Shows by the Bay Week IV

-Currently Ovation's Leading Low Jr./AO Jumper Rider nationally

Returning Senior Sam Schaefer:

- Blue Rock JR/AO Jumper Classic Winner

-Upperville Colt and Horse Show Grand Champion Amateur Hunter, Best Amateur Rider as chosen by the judges and Leading Amateur Rider for most wins accumulated throughout horse show

-Upperville Colt and Horse Show Champion in both the 3'6" AO hunters and 3'3" AO hunters

-4th in USHJA International Hunter Derby at the Upperville Colt and Horse Show

-Won 4/5 classes and Champion AO hunter at Loudoun Benefit Horse Show

-Champion in the 3'3 AO hunters at Swan Lake Horse Show

-Vermont Summer Festival Week I: Grand Hunter Champion, with championships and wins in the AO hunters, 2nd in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame High JR/AO Classic

-Vermont Summer Festival Week II: Winner of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame High JR/AO Classic, Champion in the 3'3" AO Hunters, 2nd in the Vermont Summer Festival Hunter Derby

-Winner of the 10k 1.30m Mason Dixon Classic Mini Prix

-Bay State Horse Show AO Champion
