WACO, Texas. - The Baylor equestrian team (8-5) had a set back this weekend on the road to Big 12 competition, falling to No. 7 Kansas State 11-9 Friday and lost at No. 3 Oklahoma State 11-7 Saturday.
Baylor dropped 3-2 decisions in flat, fences and reining, but did manage to out-duel the Wildcats in horsemanship, 3-2 Friday in Manhattan, Kan.
Then Saturday, Baylor took a 4-1 victory in flat over OSU, but the Cowgirls took a 3-2 win in fences and outscored Baylor in the two western events, 7-1.
Monday's NCEA rankings dropped Baylor from No. 5 to No. 7.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Sam Schaefer earned MOP honors in fences vs. KSU. She had a score of 85 and defeated Kansas State's Henley Adkins who had a score of 82.
• Parris Rice also won MOP honors for the Bears vs. KSU with her score of 73 in horsemanship. Her opponent, Rachel Wetherell of Kansas State had a score of 71.5.
• Schaefer won her second MOP honor of the weekend vs. OSU, earning a score of 83 to defeat Oklahoma State rider Samantha Elser (72).
WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will get a chance to rebound at the Big 12 Championships held in Waco, Texas at the Willis Family Equestrian Center March 28-29. The Bears will get a chance at KSU, OSU and TCU again.
