Equestrian Drops Heartbreaker At Big 12 Championship

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Baylor equestrian team (9-6) suffered a tough 8-7 loss to Oklahoma State (10-5) in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship on Friday at the Animal Science Arena in Stillwater, Okla.

"We rode well today," head coach Ellen White said. "It went down to the last ride. We are going to regroup tonight and get ready for a win tomorrow."

Baylor defeated OSU 5-3 in Hunter Seat but fell 5-2 in Western. Samantha Schaefer earned a pair of points for BU.

The meet began with a tie of 2-2 for the Bears in Fences. AshleyAnn McGeehee's 155 and Samantha Schaefer's 176 earned both the points for Baylor.

Baylor took a 5-3 lead after defeating OSU 3-1 in Flat. Melanie Appel (152), Jennifer Mitchell (134) and Samantha Schaefer (159) all earned the points for the BU win.

Oklahoma State brought the meet to a. 8-8 tie with a 4-0 defeat of the Bears in Horsemanship.

Even though BU won Reining 2-1, with both Katherine Berg (141) ad Claire Edwards (140) earning the points, Baylor ended the meet with an 8-7 loss to OSU.

BU will go for third place, taking on TCU Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
