WACO, Texas - Baylor's 34th-ranked women's tennis team will continue Big 12 action at home against 42nd-ranked TCU at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
"TCU has a strong team, and is having a great season," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "They're 12-2 on the year, and that record speaks for itself. Right now, our team is 7-11 and trying to figure out if they have what it takes to be a successful team."
Baylor enters the match after a 4-3 loss to ninth-ranked Miami. BU is 7-11 overall and 5-2 at home.
Two singles players are ranked in the Baylor lineup: No. 10 Ema Burgic and No. 120 Victoria Kisialeva.
Burgic has won five matches in a row and is 13-5 overall on court 1. In doubles, the Lady Bears have struggled, but have gotten wins lately from the 29th-ranked tandem of Burgic and Kisialeva (10-1) at the top spot of the lineup.
TCU (12-2) is also 2-0 in the Big 12. In its last match, the Horned Frogs lost to No. 27 Rice, 5-2. TCU's lineup has two ranked singles players, including No. 71 Stefanie Tan, No. 75 Olivia Smith. No. 47 Smith and Millie Nichols comprise TCU's only ranked doubles pair with an 8-2 record.
The Horned Frogs hold the all-time series edge over the Lady Bears 14-15. The last time these two teams met, Baylor blew past TCU with a 6-1 victory on Feb. 1, 2012. This will be the first meeting between the two squads as Big 12 foes.
"We have a lot of room for growth on and off the court," Scrivano said. "We need to continue to get out of our comfort zone and push forward. I know this group can do something special this season."
After the match, Baylor will continue its home stand against third-ranked Texas A&M at 5 p.m. on April 3 at the Hurd Tennis Center.
