WACO, Texas - Senior Tyler Bremer struck out a career-high nine batters and allowed just one run in 7.0 innings to lead No. 3 Baylor to a 6-4 win over UT Arlington on Wednesday night at Baylor Ballpark.

With the win, Baylor (36-8) recorded its 18th consecutive home victory - the nation's longest active streak. Max Garner stranded the potential tying run on second base in the ninth inning to earn his ninth save of the season.

"For (Bremer) to get seven innings is pretty big," head coach Steve Smith said. "Coming back after last night, we're dragging a little bit right now. That's not an excuse, that's just reality, and most teams in college baseball are at this time of year."

Bremer (4-0) allowed only four singles and walked one in a career-long 7.0 innings. He threw 64 of his 97 pitches for strikes and struck out six consecutive batters between the last out of the fourth and the second out of the sixth. The Bears avenged a March 13 loss to UTA (26-15) that was the Bears last defeat before they went on a school-record 24-game winning streak.

Max Muncy went 2-for-5 with three RBI, Logan Vick and Steve DalPorto added two hits apiece, and Dan Evatt got the Bears on the board early with a two-run homer in the first inning.

Adam Westbrook (0-2) took the loss for the Mavericks after allowing two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings. Five UTA relievers combined to allow four runs over their 6.0 innings of work.

Evatt's home run in the first gave the Bears a 2-0 lead, and Muncy drove in a Nathan Orf with a run in the third to extend the lead. Muncy added a two-run single in the fifth, and Logan Brown's squeeze bunt in the sixth gave the Bears a 6-1 lead.

Bremer faced just four batters over the minimum in his 7.0 innings of work, and the only UTA run came after Derek Miller walked and moved up two bases on wild pitches before a two-out RBI single from Preston Morrow. Miller was the only UTA player to reach third base against Bremer.

Morrow had three of the Mavericks' seven hits in the game, and Philip Incaviglia added two hits in four at-bats.

UTA put two runners in scoring position with no outs in the eighth, but Crayton Bare came out of the bullpen to limit the damage to one run by retiring the next three batters in order. The Bears carried a 6-2 lead to the ninth, but UTA got a one-out walk and an infield single against Joe Kirkland to end his night.

Max Garner came on in relief and walked two batters to cut the Baylor lead to 6-4 and moved the potential tying run to second base, but he got a strikeout and a groundout to end the game.

The Bears return to action with a two-game series against No. 25 New Mexico State at Baylor Ballpark this weekend. Friday's game is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., and Saturday's game against the Aggies is slated for 12:05 p.m. The games against NMSU are Baylor's last before a 10-day break for final exams, and the Bears have only two remaining home games following the two-game series.
