TWEET OF THE GAME

WACO, Texas - Playing in its final exhibition of the season, the Baylor women's basketball team overcame some early mistakes and cruised to a 92-49 win over Tarleton State, Monday night, at the Ferrell Center in front of 7,622 fans.

With Baylor holding a slim 10-9 advantage six minutes into the contest, the Lady Bears outscored Tarleton State 44-13 the remainder of the half to pull away from the TexAnns.

Baylor's Brittney Griner, the 2011-12 unanimous National Player of the Year, did not participate in BU's final warm up game, per coach's decision.

"I'm redshirting her. Now, she might talk me out of it before daylight, but for now I'm redshirting her. Put it in the headlines across the country," head coach Kim Mulkey said. "Nah, honestly, it was a coach's decision. She's not in trouble or hurt."

Four of the five Baylor starters scored in double-figures, led by senior post Brooklyn Pope. Pope shot 70 percent (7-of-10) from the field for a game-high 16 points. Kimetria Hayden (15), Odyssey Sims (11) and Jordan Madden (10) all tallied double-digit points for the Lady Bears. Sims added a game-high six assists and seven steals in BU's win.

The Lady Bears shot 58.7 percent from the field (37-63) and outrebounded Tarleton State 37-25, as well as recording 24 steals.

"I thought our guards did what they were supposed to do," Mulkey said. "They were in passing lanes and made things happen. I think they set the tone there early and just did a very good job."

Baylor forced 35 Tarleton State turnovers, tallying 49 points off TexAnn miscues. The Lady Bears outscored Tarleton 66-30 in the paint and tallied 34 bench points.

Kiara Wright, sister of former Baylor All-American receiver Kendall Wright, led Tarleton State with 18 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out with less than two minutes to play.

Baylor will host Lamar in a Friday afternoon matchup to open the 2012-13 season. Tip is slated for noon and will be televised on FOX Sports Southwest.
