Sherwood Cup - Day 1 
Baylor's men's tennis team is headed to Southern California this week in preparation for the dual-match season, which is set to kick off in next week. The fifth-ranked Bears will be joining players from top-ranked USC, sixth-ranked Stanford and No. 9 UCLA at the 2012 Sherwood Collegiate Cup at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Six Bears combine with 26 players from the other three schools to compete in the tournament. USC fields five of the tournament's top eight singles seeds while Baylor, Stanford and UCLA each have one seeded player.
Freshman Mate Zsiga is the lone seeded Bear in singles, checking in at No. 4. Junior Roberto Maytin and sophomore Robert Verzaal are the event's top doubles seed. The tournament begins on Friday and concludes on Monday.
Also competing in singles for the Bears are freshman Lars Behlen, senior Kike Grangeiro and freshman Marko Krickovic. Baylor's other doubles combinations besides Maytin and Verzaal are Grangeiro and Zsiga and Behlen and Krickovic.
The Bears open up the 2012 dual-match season at home on Friday, Jan. 20 at 2:30 p.m. against Louisiana-Lafayette.
