OKLAHOMA CITY -Logan Verrett carried a no-hitter into the sixth, but Oklahoma State took advantage of four singles and two errors in the inning to plate four runs on its way to 6-2 win over Baylor on Wednesday morning at Bricktown Ballpark.

With the loss, Baylor (29-25) moves into the elimination side of the bracket at the Big 12 Conference Championship and awaits the losing team in the 12:30 p.m. game between top-seeded Texas and No. 8 seed Missouri.

"I didn't think we played very well, either defensively or on the bases," head coach Steve Smith said. "Offensively, I thought we were OK. You have got to give (Oklahoma State) some credit on the pitching side, particularly the guy that came in (reliever Hunter Herrera). He threw strikes with a lot of movement, a little different look. For us the game was lost on the defensive side and base running."

The Bears had runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings, but OSU starter Mike Strong escaped without allowing a run both times. Max Muncy and Dan Evatt were stranded in scoring position in the first, and Jake Miller was left on third after a one-out triple in the second.

Baylor broke through with a pair of runs in the third after Chris Slater hit a leadoff triple and scored on Muncy's RBI double. Two outs later, Joey Hainsfurther brought Muncy home with a RBI single to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. Strong was relieved by Hunter Herrera after allowing two runs on five hits in 2.2 innings.

Verrett struck out a batter in each of the first five frames and didn't allow a hit until Zach Johnson's one-out single in the sixth. Two batters later, Luis Uribe's RBI single ended Verrett's string of consecutive innings without allowing an earned run at 27.0 straight, cutting the Baylor lead to 2-1.

Dane Phillips blooped a single off the glove of second baseman Steve DalPorto to load the bases, and Gabe Weidenaar followed with a game-tying RBI single.

With the bases loaded and the potential go-ahead run at third, Verrett struck out Mark Ginther for the second out and got Hunter Bailey to hit a grounder to second base, but Steve DalPorto couldn't field it and threw the ball away for his second error on the play when Phillips scurried home from second base to put OSU in front 4-2.

"I thought Logan was really sharp and even in the inning where they scored, he should have been out of that inning long before I had to go out there and get him," Smith said. "We just didn't play very well behind him."

Verrett (6-5) took the loss after allowing four runs - two of which were earned - on four hits with six strikeouts and five walks in 5.2 innings.

Herrera (3-1) allowed only five hits and three walks in 5.2 innings of relief to get the win. Ginther added some insurance with a two-run homer in the eighth off Baylor reliever Trent Blank.

The Bears loaded the bases in the ninth on a pinch-hit single from Cal Towey, a single from Slater and Muncy's third walk of the game, but Weidenaar moved to the mound and retired Josh Ludy and Dan Evatt to end the game and record his third save.

Hainsfurther, Slater and Ludy had two hits apiece for the Bears, while Muncy doubled, drew three walks and drove in a run. Weidenaar had the only multi-hit game for the Cowboys, finishing 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. The Bears lost despite out-hitting OSU 10-6.

Baylor will play either Texas or Missouri in an elimination game at 9 a.m. Thursday. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Josh Turley is scheduled to take the mound for the Bears.
