IRVING, Texas - Baylor senior women's golfer Morgan Chambers is one of 12 student-athletes recognized as part of the 2011 Spring Chick-fil-A Community of Champions, the Big 12 Conference office announced Wednesday. The institution of the student-athletes' on this list will be awarded $3,000 each year from Chick-fil-A for their efforts.
Chambers, a senior from Purcell, Okla., is a double major in health science studies and pre-med, sporting a 3.85 grade-point average. She has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her first seven semesters at Baylor and is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection.
In March, she was one of 14 Baylor student-athletes to earn the inaugural Dr. Gerald Lage Award, the Big 12 Conference's highest academic honor. The award is given only once to a student-athlete who has completed 100 hours of earned credit with a cumulative GPA of 3.80 or higher at the time of nomination.
During the fall, winter and spring terms, one student-athlete from each institution is honored based on the following criteria:
- Academics: An academic standard of a 3.00 GPA or higher must be maintained.
- Community Service: The designated student-athlete should be involved with at least one community service program. The program(s) could be a student organization on campus or within the athletics department.
- Leadership/Sportsmanship: The student-athlete should demonstrate leadership and sportsmanship on and off the field.
Women's basketball senior Lindsay Palmer was Baylor's representative named to the 2011 Winter Chick-fil-A Community of Champions, while soccer senior Lindsey Johnson was named to the 2010 Fall Chick-fil-A Community of Champions.
