WACO, Texas - Windy conditions made for a difficult course setup Tuesday as the Baylor women's golf team dropped its dual match to Kent State at Ridgewood Country Club. The Golden Flashes carded a 300, shooting 12-over-par to defeat the Lady Bears (311) by an 11-stroke margin.
Jaclyn Jansen posted Baylor's best individual round of the dual match with a 4-over-par 76. Seniors Morgan Chambers and Kristen Hendrix each shot 77, while Chelsey Cothran and Jordan Rhodes both carded a 79. Freshman Kaylin Terry shot 8-over-par 80 and senior Lene Hafsten-Morch finished the day with an 85.
Kent State senior Sarah Bradley, who spent her for two collegiate seasons at Oklahoma State, carded the round's only sub-par round, shooting 1-under-par 71. Martina Gavier and Mandi Morrow shot a 74 and 75, respectively, while three other Golden Flashes shot 80 or above.
"Kent State did exactly what it needed to do to win today," head coach Sylvia Ferdon said. "We need to have our top three scorers consistently put up our top scorers and that didn't happen again with Kent State.
"We can't have Lene (Hafsten-Morch) shooting 85 or Chelsey Cothran with a 79," Ferdon said. "That was the deal for us. We need to shake this off and get ready for Arizona this weekend."
Baylor enters its final stretch of the spring season this weekend with the MountainView Collegiate, which will be held Friday and Saturday in Tucson, Ariz. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
