FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 8 Baylor Equestrian team began the first of the two-day Best of the West Tournament with a 4-9 win over Fresno State Saturday afternoon at the Student Equestrian Center.
The Bears began the competition with a 3-0 sweep in Equitation on the Flat. Lisa Goldman's score of 91 was enough to earn her MVP honors. Taylor Brown (80) and Kara Fergusson (70) also notched points for the Bears.
Baylor continued to stretch their lead, winning Equitation over Fences 2-1. Kara Fergusson (82) and Taylor Brown (67) each scored points for the Bears. Fergusson was also awarded MVP honors and resulted in Baylor having a 5-1 lead through half of the events.
The Bears continued to advance their lead, winning Horsemanship 2-1. Chelsea Retmeir (72) and Megan Murphy (74.5) earned a pair of points for Baylor. Murphy was also honored as MVP.
Baylor ended the competition with a 2-1 win in Reining. Amber Mooney's score of 72.5 earned her MVP honors. Olivia Rogers (72.5) also earned a point for the Bears and resulted in a 9-4 victory over Fresno State.
The Bears will be in action again on March 26 against SMU in Dallas, Texas.
