Central District Invitational Results
PARRISH, Fla. - For the second straight day, Baylor was unable to find its rhythm as the No. 54 women's golf team finished 14th Tuesday at the Central District Invitational. The Lady Bears finished the two-day tournament at 58-over (303-304-305=922).
No. 16 Iowa State posted the tournament's lowest round Tuesday, vaulting over first-day leader LSU to win the Central District Invitational at 4-over 868. No. 4 LSU finished nine strokes behind the Cyclones in second place, while No. 42 Texas A&M was third at 17-over 881. Host Michigan State finished fifth at 24-over 888.
LSU's Austin Ernst claimed individual medalist honors, winning the tournament by one stroke at 3-under 213. TCU's Brooke Beeler finished second with a final score of 2-under 214. Ernst and Beeler were the only golfers to finish the tournament under-par.
"A slight fog delay this morning hampered us from starting on time, but other than that, conditions were good Tuesday," assistant coach Jordan Cox said. "Jaclyn (Jansen) played well, shooting 72. She had five birdies, but also had five bogeys and told me later that she couldn't quite get into a rhythm."
Baylor junior Jaclyn Jansen turned in the Lady Bears' best individual round of the tournament Tuesday. The Effingham, Ill., native's final-round even-par 72 helped her finish tied for 30th at 10-over (76-78-72=226). Fellow junior Chelsey Cothran tied for 35th at 11-over (73-77-77=227).
"It's always that big number that bites everyone on the same hole in any given round," Cox said. "That's the difference between where we are now and where we need to be. We need to really play hard the next few tournaments to position ourselves for the postseason."
Lene Hafsten-Morch tallied Baylor's second-lowest score of Tuesday's final round with a 76, finishing tied for 55th at 16-over (76-80-76=232). Jordan Rhodes finished 71st at 29-over (86-79-80=245), one stroke ahead of teammate Morgan Chambers, who tied for 72nd at 30-over (78-82-86=246).
Baylor returns to action March 7-9 when the Lady Bears travel to Boulder City, Nev., for the UNLV Spring Invitational.
