SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The 18th-ranked Baylor men's golf team posted another sub-par round Monday, but slipped to fifth after the second round of the Lone Star Invitational. Baylor (1-under 287) was one of only four schools to shoot under-par in the second round.

No. 16 New Mexico still leads the field, but saw its lead shrink after Texas A&M shot 12-under for the day. New Mexico leads by four strokes at 16-under 560, followed by Texas A&M at 12-under 564. No. 42 North Texas is third at 9-under 567, two strokes ahead of fourth-place Arizona (7-under 569) and three strokes ahead of fifth-place Baylor (6-under 570).

"The course played a little more difficult Monday with tough pin placements and we had some three-putts," head coach Greg Priest said. "That put us behind the eight ball a little bit, but we settled down and battled back. We didn't play the way we wanted in the second round, but it was good to see us fight and bounce back like that."

Senior Joakim Mikkelsen fired a second-round 69 and is in third place overall at 9-under 135, two strokes behind second-round leader Roman Robledo of Houston (11-under 133). New Mexico's John Catlin, who was the first-round leader, is second at 10-under 134.

Mikkelsen began the second round at 2-over through three holes after back-to-back bogeys. He rebounded with back-to-back birdies on No. 4 and 5 to get back to even-par. A bogey on No. 9 dropped Mikkelsen to 1-over through the front nine. The Drammen, Norway, native shot 4-under on the back nine thanks to birdies on No. 10 and 11 and his second eagle of the tournament.

"Joakim had a rough start, but he hung in there and worked his way back to 3-under," Priest said. "That's what we need. We're fine. We need to settle down and take care of business Tuesday."

Freshman Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen remains tied for 23rd overall after posting his second consecutive round of even-par 72. Junior Ryan O'Rear shot a second-round 73, slipping to a 28th-place tie at 1-over 145. Jerry Ruiz is tied for 36th at 2-over 146, while Niclas Mansson is tied for 43rd at 3-over 147.

The final round of the Lone Star Invitational will tee off Tuesday at 8 a.m. CDT. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
