WACO - The Baylor Equestrian team (6-4) began their spring season on a high note defeating Delaware State, 14-2 at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
The Bears opened by sweeping flat 4-0. Kara Fergusson's score of 75 earned her MVP honors. Margaret Beaudoin (77), Melanie Appel (60) and Taylor Brown (71) also earned points for Baylor.
Baylor continued to stretch their lead, winning fences 4-0. Tara Funk (81), Taylor Brown (83), Lindsay Otis (75) and Lisa Goldman (82) notched points for the Bears. Brown also earned MVP honors for BU.
With an 8-0 lead through half of the events, the Hornets gave Baylor a slight scare with a 2-2 tie in reining. Alexis Gray (71.5) and Ellie Powell (70) each score points for the Bears.
Baylor swept the Hornets once again winning horsemanship 4-0. Meghan Murphy (77.5) received MVP honors, while Jordan Bolger (72.5), Chelsea Retmier (75) and Blair Bergeson (76) also contributed points for Baylor en route to 14-2 victory over Delaware State.
Baylor will next face the University of South Carolina on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
