THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - With their third victory in two days, Baylor's fourth-ranked doubles team of Roberto Maytin and John Peers qualified for the Sherwood Collegiate Cup doubles main draw final on Monday at the Sherwood Country Club.

The tandem won their only match on Sunday as they took down USC's 51st-ranked Jaak Poldma and JT Sundling, 8-3. However, Peers and Maytin, won a pair of matches on Saturday in the 16-team doubles draw that features players from No. 2 USC, No. 6 UCLA and No. 8 Stanford to earn a spot in the semifinals.

In the event finals, the No. 1 seeded BU duo, will face 16th-ranked and second-seeded Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher of Stanford at 12 p.m. (CST).

Maytin and Peers will be trying to win the first doubles title for Baylor at the event, since former Bears Attila Bucko and Denes Lukacs won the crown in 2008. The two current Bears will also be looking to repeat on the success that they had in September when the duo won the 2010 HEB Baylor Invitational with five straight wins.

In consolation doubles play, Jordan Rux and Kike Grangeiro defeated Alex Clayton and Walker Kehrer of Stanford, 8-4 in semifinal action. However, BU's other tandem of Sergio Ramirez and Robert Verzaal dropped an 8-4 decision to Daniel Nguyen and Peter Lucassen of USC.

Rux and Grangeiro will now face Nguyen and Lucassen in the consolation doubles final on Monday.

"I thought it was good day in that both our doubles teams played well," head coach Matt Knoll said. "I think it is going to be a great final with our guys and the Stanford team. It will be a really good challenge for our guys and they will have the opportunity to get better."

In singles action, Julian Bley dropped a three-set consolation semifinal match to Sundling 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 to end his run at the event. The Baylor junior finished with a 2-2 record in California.

The other three singles matches on the day involving Baylor players were all setup to get the players in some more live match action. Rux beat Jamin Ball of Stanford 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Dennis Lengsfeld beat Matt Kandath 2-6, 6-3, 10-6, while the Bears' other freshman Robert Verzaal lost to Walker Kehrer of Stanford, 6-0, 6-4.

"Lengsfeld really had a good win over Kandath," Knoll said. "I really saw a light come on for him, after he had lost the first set. Hopefully, that bodes for the future."

A recap of the doubles main draw and consolation finals will be available on Sunday at BaylorBears.com, after the conclusion of the matches.
