Baylor (3-0) took home its third annual Willis Invitational title with a pair of victories on Saturday at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. The Bears earned a 10-4 win over Miami/Ohio State and a 9-6 victory over New Mexico State en route to the first-place finish.

"It's great to start the season with three wins," head coach Ellen White said. "We are proud to hold on to the trophy for another year, and we will take everything we learned in order to get better."

Baylor wrapped up the two-day event without losing any of its 12 events.

The Bears began competition against the combined Miami/Ohio State squad with a 2-1 win in fences. Taylor Brown picked up MVP honors with the best score of the weekend, scoring an 88, while Kara Fergusson earned the other point with a 79.

Baylor picked up a 3-1 win in flat, giving it the 5-2 lead overall. Courtney Acarregui earned MVP with an 85, while Taylor Brown earned an 85 of her own for a point and Kara Fergusson's 79 got the third point for BU.

The western side kept momentum rolling with a 2-1 horsemanship win. Meghan Murphy (72) earned MVP for the Bears, with Blair Bergeson's 72 garnering the second point.

Baylor scored a 3-1 win in reining, led by Barbara Aitken's 72 that gave her MVP honors. Adriana Ribeiro recorded a 70 for the point, and Amber Mooney scored a 68.5 for the third point.

The Bears opened up action against New Mexico State with a 3-1 lead after fences. Kara Fergusson posted a career-high mark of 88, while Taylor Brown (85) and Kendra Vicary (80) each picked up the other two points.

BU wrapped up the 5-3 hunter seat win after a 2-2 tie in flat. Kim Woodsum's MVP performance scored her an 88 and Whitney McIlvain laid down an 85 for the tie.

Baylor got a 2-1 result in reining to put it up 7-4, as Amber Mooney (73) and Meghan Murphy (72) registered the Bears' points.

Up 7-4, the Bears needed just one point to win, and they did so with a 2-2 tie in horsemanship, as Amber Mooney earned her second MVP of the weekend with a 73, while Katie Buss' 69.5 scored the other point.

Baylor will next be in action on Friday, Oct. 15 at Kansas State.
