The reigning Big 12 Champion equestrian team has released its 2010-11 equestrian schedule head coach Ellen White announced Tuesday. The schedule features competitions against eight of the top-10 western teams, seven of the top-10 hunter seat teams and six home events.

The Bears will host the top three team finishers last season, as Georgia (Nov. 5), Texas A&M (Nov. 12) and South Carolina (Jan. 29) make their way to Waco.

"We have a tough schedule and will need to push ourselves in practice to be up for it," White said. " We are competing against championship teams and we need to go against them to see where the bar is for us to be in contention for a championship."

For the third straight season, the Bears will open the season by hosting the Willis Invitational, a two-day, five-team event. Joining Baylor in the Sept. 24-25 competition will be Miami (Ohio), Ohio State, New Mexico State and Delaware State. Baylor will wrap up the fall portion of the schedule with six matches. The Bears travel to Kansas State (Oct. 15) and Oklahoma State (Oct. 16) before a string of four-straight home events. BU will welcome Oklahoma State (Oct. 29), defending national champion Georgia (Nov. 5), Texas A&M (Nov. 12) and Kansas State (Nov. 19).

The Bears will be home for just three meets in the spring, beginning with South Carolina and Delaware State on Jan. 29. Baylor will then hit the road to take on TCU (Feb. 4) and Texas A&M (Feb. 12) before returning for the final home event against SMU on Feb. 19. BU will head to Fresno, Calif. (Feb. 26-27) for a tournament featuring Fresno State, TCU and South Carolina and wrap up the regular season at SMU (March 26).

Baylor will look to defend its Big 12 crown at the Big 12 Championships in College Station on April 1-2, as Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Kansas State join the Bears in the quest for the title.

For the fifth straight season, Baylor will host the Varsity Equestrian National Championship at the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo Complex. Competition will run from April 14-16.
