WACO, Texas - Baylor men's golf released its 2010-11 schedule with the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate and Callaway Collegiate Match Play as the highlights of the 10-tournament slate, head coach Greg Priest announced Friday. Last season, the Bears advanced to the NCAA Championships for just the fifth time in program history, while extending their streak to 13 consecutive NCAA postseason appearances.
"We have benefited from last season's trip to the NCAA Championships, strengthening this year's schedule with top-notch events," Priest said. "This schedule definitely presents challenges for us, but in order to take our program to the next level, these are the types of tournaments we need."
For the second straight season, the Bears open competition with Golfweek's Conference Challenge (Sept. 19-21) in Burlington, Iowa. The Bears will then head to Albuquerque, N.M., for the William H. Tucker Invitational (Oct. 1-2) before participating in The Jack Nicklaus Invitational (Oct. 11-12) in Columbus, Ohio. Baylor concludes its fall schedule Nov. 1-2 by hosting the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas. The third-year event, known as the Baylor Intercollegiate in 2008 and 2009, will be held on the par-71, 7,068-yard course at Royal Oaks Country Club.
"Once again, we have a really strong field for the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate," Priest said. "It's great to be able to go back to Royal Oaks. Everyone has enjoyed the tournament and it has generated a tremendous amount of interest from other programs.
"The Royal Oaks Intercollegiate has received very good reviews and, with Royal Oaks finishing renovations, it should be a really special event this year," Priest said.
Baylor opens its spring schedule Feb. 15-16 in San Antonio at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational. A busy four-week stretch follows with four tournaments beginning at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters (March 11-13). Callaway Collegiate Match Play (March 20-22) and Border Olympics (March 25-26) round out the month of March before the Bears venture to Scottsdale, Ariz., for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic (April 4-5). BU concludes its regular-season schedule April 16-17 at the Aggie Invitational in Bryan, Texas.
The 2011 Big 12 Men's Golf Championships (April 25-27) will be held at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The NCAA Regional tournaments are set for May 19-21, while the 114th annual NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships are May 31-June 5 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
