Baylor makes its 16th NCAA €ˆTournament appearance this weekend at the Fort Worth Regional, hosted by TCU at Lupton Stadium. The second-seeded Bears face third-seeded Arizona in Friday's first round with a 2 p.m. CDT €ˆfirst pitch. Host and top-seeded TCU faces fourth-seeded Lamar at 7 p.m. Friday. The two teams that lose in the opening round will play an elimination game Saturday at 2 p.m., while the two winning teams from Friday's games will meet for a spot in the championship round at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Bears (34-22) are 8-2 in their last 10 games after having their eight-game winning streak snapped in the title game at the Big 12 Conference Championship in Oklahoma City. Baylor finished sixth in the Big 12 regular-season standings and swept their pool at the Big 12 Championship with wins over Kansas State, Oklahoma and Kansas. The Bears are 8-12 away from home this season, 5-11 on opponents' home fields and 3-1 in neutral-site games. Baylor is listed among teams receiving votes in both the USA €ˆToday/ESPN and NCBWA polls.

Arizona (33-22) is 3-7 in its last 10 games after dropping two of three games in a series at Oregon State last weekend; it was the sixth consecutive series loss for Arizona. The Wildcats finished eighth in the Pac 10 regular-season standings. Arizona is 6-9 on the road this season, with all 15 games on opponents' home fields. The Wildcats opened the season with 25 consecutive home games. The Wildcats were ranked 28th nationally by the NCBWA prior to losing their series at Oregon State.

TCU €ˆ(46-11) is 9-1 in its last 10 games after winning last week's Mountain West Conference Tournament in San €ˆDiego, Calif. The Horned Frogs beat Utah, UNLV and New Mexico to claim the MWC tournament championship, and they were also regular-season MWC €ˆchampions. Prior to the conference tournament, TCU swept a three-game series against Cal State Bakersfield and won two of three against Air Force. TCU €ˆis 23-4 at home this season. The Horned Frogs are ranked sixth nationally in both the Baseball America Top 25 and the USA €ˆToday/ESPN Coaches' Poll this week.

Baylor and TCU have played 11 common opponents this season: Sam Houston State, UTSA, Texas Tech, Missouri, UT €ˆArlington, Oral €ˆRoberts, BYU, Dallas Baptist, Texas State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. The Bears are 17-9 against those teams, while TCU is 20-4 in those contests.

Lamar (35-24) is 7-3 in its last 10 games after winning last week's Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Cardinals finished the regular season in seventh place in the SLC, but claimed the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by beating Northwestern State, McNeese State (twice) and Texas State for the tournament title. Lamar is 14-10 away from home this season, going 10-10 on opponents' home fields and 4-0 in neutral-site games.

Baylor and Lamar have played six common opponents this season: Dallas Baptist, Texas State, Sam Houston State, UTSA, Northwestern State and UT €ˆArlington. Baylor went 8-1 against those opponents, while Lamar posted a 12-6 record in those contests.

BAYLOR VS. 2010 NCAA TOURNAMENT FIELD
Baylor has played six teams in this year's NCAA Tournament field: Kansas State, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and Oral Roberts. The Bears were 8-12 against those teams, including a 1-1 mark against TCU and a 3-1 record against Oral €ˆRoberts.

BAYLOR HISTORY IN NCAA TOURNAMENT
Baylor makes its 16th NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend, the program's 11th regional in the past 13 seasons. The Bears are 34-32 all-time in NCAA postseason play, going 28-21 all-time in regional play, €ˆ4-5 in Super Regional play and 2-6 at the College World Series. Baylor is 19-10 in neutral-site games at the regional level but just 3-9 on opponents' home fields. The Bears' last victory on an opponents' home field in the regional round was a 3-2 victory at Southern Mississippi in 2003. Since then, Baylor lost twice at Rice in 2006 and in 10 innings at LSU in 2009.

In 2007, the Bears lost their opening-round game to second-seeded TCU and rebounded to eliminate fourth-seeded Prairie View A&M. Baylor led 5-3 heading to the ninth inning in an elimination game against TCU, but the Horned Frogs rallied for seven runs in the frame and won 10-5. Prior to the 2007 regional, Baylor had won five consecutive regional first-round games and had reached the championship round in five straight regional appearances.

In 2009, the Bears knocked off 21st-ranked and second-seeded Minnesota, 5-0, in the opening round, setting up a game with No. 2 national seed LSU for a spot in the championship round. The homestanding Tigers knocked off Baylor, 3-2, in 10 innings, sending the Bears to an elimination game against Minnesota. Baylor lead 5-2 after six innings, but the Bears gave up 13 runs over the next three frames, and a seven-run rally in the ninth wasn't enough to complete the comeback.

BAYLOR - ARIZONA SERIES HISTORY
Baylor and Arizona meet for the 10th time Friday and the first time in NCAA tournament history. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 6-3, including a 2-1 mark in Waco and a 4-2 record in Tucson. The teams will be meeting at a neutral site for the first time. Baylor and Arizona have played three different three-game series from 1998 through 2004. The Wildcats swept a three-game series in Tucson to open the 1998 season, outscoring the Bears 32-9. Baylor got revenge in 2003, when the Bears rebounded from dropping the series opener to claim two games in the series in Tucson. UA played in Waco for the first time in 2004, and the Wildcats took the opener and the finale to win the series, despite being outscored 14-9. The Bears have won all three games in the series in which they've scored 10 or more runs, but have never won with fewer than 10.

BAYLOR VS. PAC 10 CONFERENCE OPPONENTS
The Bears are 18-15 all-time against teams currently playing as members of the Pac 10 Conference. Baylor also has played Arizona State (4-6), California (0-1), Oregon State (1-0), Southern California (6-2), Stanford (1-0), UCLA (1-0) and Washington State (2-0).

Baylor's last game against a Pac 10 opponent was a 5-1 victory Feb. 28, 2009, against ninth-ranked UCLA at the Astros College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston; Willie Kempf worked the final 2.0 innings to earn the save against the Bruins, while Joey Hainsfurther went 2-for-2 with three walks, two runs and two RBI, and Brooks Pinckard went 2-for-4 and scored twice.

The Bears are 3-3 all-time against Pac 10 teams in NCAA Tournament play. Southern California knocked off Baylor twice in its first regional appearance in 1948, and California won an opening round game against the Bears in 1991. The Bears have won their last three postseason meetings against Pac 10 teams, including a 4-3, 12-inning win over Stanford to clinch the 2005 Waco Regional, and a pair of wins against Arizona State in the 2006 Houston Regional.

BAYLOR - TCU SERIES HISTORY
Baylor and TCU have met 240 times in the 107-year history of the series. The Bears and Horned Frogs played twice this season -- April 27 in Fort Worth and April 28 in Waco. TCU rallied in the ninth to tie the game in Fort Worth at 3-3, and then the Horned Frogs took a walk-off win with a sacrifice fly in the 10th. Baylor got revenge the following day, pounding TCU 14-4 in a game that was called after eight innings due to the run rule. The teams first met on April 21, 1904. TCU holds a 51-49 lead in all-time games played in Fort Worth, and the Horned Frogs also hold a 7-1 lead in neutral site meetings. The teams have met three times in the NCAA €ˆtournament, with Baylor knocking off TCU 8-3 at the Waco Regional on its way to Omaha in 2005, but TCU won both games against Baylor at the 2007 Houston Regional, including an elimination game when the Bears took a 5-3 lead to the ninth and ended up losing 10-5.

BAYLOR VS. MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE OPPONENTS
The Bears are 144-109 all-time against teams currently playing as members of the Mountain West Conference. The Bears also have played Air Force (2-0), BYU (1-1) and San Diego State (5-2).

Baylor's last game against an MWC opponent besides TCU was March 2 of this season, when BYU held off a last Baylor rally for a 7-5 win.

Though the Bears haven't played any current members of the Mountain West in postseason play, they have played against a program that is affiliated with the conference but no longer fields a baseball team. Baylor knocked off Colorado State, 13-4, in the second game of the 1948 Western Regional in Denver, Colo. It was the Bears first postseason victory in program history.

BAYLOR - LAMAR SERIES HISTORY
Baylor and Lamar have played 70 games in the all-time series, and the Bears hold a 41-28-1 advantage against the Cardinals. Despite the high number of games in the series, Lamar and Baylor have played just three times during the 17-year tenure of Baylor head coach Steve Smith. Baylor is 3-0 against the Cardinals during that span, and the Bears have won the only two neutral-site meetings in the series history. Both of those meetings were at the 2002 Austin Regional, when Baylor won 4-2 in the opening round and rallied to beat the Cardinals 10-9 in an elimination game.

BAYLOR VS. SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE OPPONENTS
The Bears are 303-131-1 all-time against teams currently playing as members of the Southland Conference. The Bears have played McNeese State (8-7), Nicholls State (7-2), Northwestern State (11-7), Sam Houston €ˆState (57-38), Stephen F. Austin (27-0), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (5-0), Texas State (44-17), UT €ˆArlington (76-29) and UTSA (27-3).

Baylor went 7-1 against SLC opponents this season, including a 2-1 record against Texas State, a 2-0 record against UT Arlington, and single wins against UTSA, Sam Houston State and Northwestern State. Lamar is the only SLC €ˆteam the Bears have met in the postseason.
