WACO, Texas - Baylor women's tennis player Taylor Ormond added to her lengthy list of academic accomplishments earning ESPN The Magazine Academic Women's At-Large All-District VI honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
Ormond, a junior English major from Hamilton, Ontario, holds a 3.89 GPA while playing at the No. 3 singles position and No. 2 doubles position for BU. This season, Ormond has compiled a 21-9 record in singles play, including a 16-6 mark in dual-match play for the top-ranked Lady Bears. In doubles, Ormond has shifted partners on separate occasions, but currently boasts a seven-match win streak alongside Carla Lindlar.
Over her career, Ormond has compiled a spectacular list of academic accomplishments, including being named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team twice, the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll five times, and the Baylor Dean's List four times, along with earning the 2009 ITA Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
At-Large selection covers the states of Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico and includes 12 different sports. To be eligible for Academic All-America status, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale and have reached sophomore standing both academically and athletically.
Prior to Ormond, four other women's tennis players have earned honors from CoSIDA, including Cindy Jansky, Rachel Forney, Stephanie Krienke and Carolyn McGrath. Each of the four earned Academic All-America honors.
