Complete Big 12 Women's Golf Championship Results in PDF Format

NORMAN, Okla. - Baylor senior Hannah Burke notched her school-record 13th career top-five finish Sunday, concluding play at the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship in second place at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

Burke, who finished in the top five of a tournament for the fifth time this season, broke the school mark of 12 previously held by Melanie Hagewood (1999-2003). Burke and Hagewood share the school record with 21 career top-10 finishes. For the top-10 finish, the Hertfordshire, England, native was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team, becoming the first three-time all-tournament performer in program history.

"I couldn't be prouder of Hannah (Burke) finishing second; she deserves it," Baylor head women's golf coach Sylvia Ferdon said. "She's been a great leader. It was a pleasure walking the final hole with her, helping her line up a putt and watching make birdie."

The Lady Bears finished ninth overall at 56-over (312-301-307=920), one stroke behind eighth-place Nebraska and two behind seventh-place Missouri.

"We have a young team that needs to learn to move on after a win and start over," Ferdon said. "I think we were on too much of high from our win last week and we need to learn how to recover."

Texas A&M claimed the 2010 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship, besting Oklahoma State by one stroke. The Aggies carded the best score of the final round, shooting 8-over to overtake the Cowboys for the conference crown. Texas finished nine shots back of Texas A&M in third, while Iowa State and Texas Tech finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Oklahoma State's Caroline Hedwall won the individual title by eight strokes over Burke, finishing at 6-under 210. Hedwall's teammate Victoria Park finished one stroke behind Burke in third at 3-over 219.

After a 4-over 76 in Friday's opening round, Burke shot 2-under over the final 36 holes with back-to-back 71s Saturday and Sunday.

Sophomore Jaclyn Jansen tied for 24th at 14-over (79-74-77=230) after carding a final-round 5-over 77. Lene Hafsten-Morch shot 7-over for Sunday's final round to finish 39th at 19-over (80-76-79=235). Both Chelsey Cothran and Karianne Hillaas tied for 51st at 25-over.

"It was disappointing where we finished," Ferdon said. "Finishing ninth hurts because we could never recover from the back nine on day one. We need to learn from this. We have a talented team and now we have to wait and see what lies ahead with the postseason."

Baylor, which has advanced to NCAA Regionals in nine of the last 10 years, will now await its NCAA postseason fate. The Division I Women's Golf Selection announcement will be made Monday at 3 p.m. The 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships will begin May 6-8 at three regional host sites.
