Baylor looks to snap a three-game losing streak while also extending its 12-game winning streak in non-conference games when the Bears take on a pair of Southland Conference teams in midweek action. Baylor hosts Sam Houston State on Tuesday night, and then the Bears head south on I-35 to take on Texas State on the Bobcats' home field Wednesday. Both games are at 6:30 p.m.
The Bears knocked off UT €ˆArlington in both games of a home-and-home series on Tuesday and Wednesday, but Baylor was swept at Kansas State after scoring just two runs in all three games over the weekend. The Bears hadn't been held to fewer than six hits in a game all season before traveling to Manhattan, but the lineup was held to five or fewer hits in all three games.
Sam Houston State (15-22) lost all four games last week. The Bearkats were coming off a series win against McNeese State when they lost a one-run game to Rice on Tuesday, and then SHSU was swept at Lamar after being outscored 23-9 in three games.
Texas State (21-13) posted a 1-3 record last week after dropping a 6-5 game at Texas on Tuesday and losing two of three in a series at Southeastern Louisiana over the weekend. The Bobcats had won three straight after a sweep of Central Arkansas, but they were unable to hold 5-2 lead after six innings in the loss in Austin. TSU and Baylor have already met twice this season, and the Bears won both games. Baylor knocked off Texas State 3-2 in the opening game of the QTI €ˆBaylor Classic on Feb. 26, and the Bears won 12-3 when the teams met again on April 6.
All Baylor baseball games are broadcast live on Waco's 1660 ESPN Radio. Live streaming audio and GameTracker also are available for all Baylor baseball games online at www.BaylorBears.com, the official website of Baylor Athletics and a member of the CBS College Sports Network.

LAST TIME VS. SAM HOUSTON STATE
Matt Shelton caught Dan Evatt looking with the potential tying run at first base in the top of the ninth as Sam Houston State upset ninth-ranked Baylor 9-8 in midweek action at Don Sanders Stadium. Baylor (25-13) has lost four of seven midweek games after starting the season 5-0 in midweek tilts. Sam Houston State (26-13) has won eight straight.
Baylor trailed 9-5 entering the ninth inning but put together a ferocious rally, most of which came with two outs. Joey Hainsfurther walked to open the inning but stayed at first until Dustin Dickerson's two-out single down the left-field line. Shaver Hansen followed with two-run double off the base of the wall in left-center to cut the deficit to 9-7. Aaron Miller followed with a single down the first-base line, scoring Hansen. Evatt, who earlier in the game blasted a two-run homer, fell behind 0-2 and was called out on strikes to end the game.
That made a winner of Sam Houston State starter Daniel Nottebart (1-0) in a predetermined 3.0-inning start. He allowed one run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Matt Shelton allowed a run on two hits but struck out Evatt to end the game and earn his second save of the season.
Nick Zaleski's two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning was a precursor of things to come for Sam Houston State. Miller answered with the first of two mammoth solo homers on the night. However, the Bearkats responded with a two-run second, a two-run third and a two-run fifth to stake an 8-1 lead.
Baylor got back in the game with a three-run sixth, all coming with two outs. Miller doubled to center, and Evatt followed with a two-run blast off the light standard in left-center. Ben Booker then doubled and scored on a Brooks Kimmey single. Sam Houston State added what proved to be the game-deciding run on a two-out passed ball in sixth before Miller's tape-measure shot to right in the top of the eighth.
Starter Willie Kempf (4-2) took the loss for the Bears, who have now lost three consecutive one-run games in an eight-day span after winning 10 consecutive one-run affairs. Kempf allowed four runs on six hits with one walk in 2.0 innings.
Miller finished the night 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Dickerson's ninth-inning single pushed his career-long hitting streak to 24 games, the third longest in Baylor history. His streak is the longest in the Big 12 this season and tied for the seventh-longest in the league's 13-year history. Booker was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Chris Slater was 2-for-3 in his first start of the season.
LAST TIME VS. TEXAS STATE
BAYLOR 12, TEXAS STATE 3 • APRIL 6, 2010 • BAYLOR BALLPARK • WACO, TEXAS
Kolt Browder turned in 5.0 innings of stellar relief to lead Baylor to a 12-3 win over Texas State in midweek action at Baylor Ballpark.
Browder came on with two runners on and no outs in the second inning and Baylor (16-10) already two runs behind Texas State (17-10). The redshirt freshman got out of the jam on just seven pitches and proceeded to retire each of the first nine batters he faced.
Brooks Pinckard got the Bears started in the third with a bunt single, and Joey Hainsfurther followed with another single. One out later, Max Muncy got Baylor on the board with a sacrifice fly, and Tyler Collins tied the game at 2-2 with a RBI single.
Browder needed just 11 pitches each in the third and fourth innings. He gave up his first hit in the fifth inning, but quickly erased the runner with a groundball double play and got through the inning with just seven pitches thrown.
The Bears took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fifth. Collins and Jon Ringenberg delivered back-to-back RBI singles, giving Baylor a 4-2 lead.
Browder finally ran into trouble in the sixth when Kyle Kubitza singled with one out and Jeff McVaney hit a two-out single. Shaun Garcia followed with a RBI single, but McVaney was thrown out at the plate in a bizarre play as he tried to score the tying run.
Logan Vick was attempting to throw Kubitza out at the plate, but his throw sailed to the backstop. Browder recovered the ball and threw to Hainsfurther at third to try to get McVaney as he rounded the base. Browder's throw went into left field, where Vick picked it up and fired a strike to Gregg Glime at the plate.
Glime was waiting with time to spare as McVaney plowed into him, prompting the home plate umpire to eject McVaney, per NCAA rules. The out ended the inning with the Bears still on top 4-3, and Baylor added on four runs in the bottom half.
Raynor Campbell drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Muncy knocked his second sacrifice fly of the night, and Ringenberg delivered his second RBI single, giving Baylor an 8-3 advantage.
Browder turned the ball over the Craig Fritsch, who notched his second save of the season by working effectively for the final three innings.
Browder (3-1) picked up the win after allowing one run on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts in a career-long 5.0 innings. He had only pitched more than 1.0 inning once before, when he went 3.0 innings in his first collegiate outing.
Texas State's Brian Borski (1-5) took the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Fritsch stranded six baserunners over the final three frames to get the save. He allowed five hits and struck out one in 3.0 shutout innings.
Jake Miller capped the scoring with the first homer of his career in the eighth, a pinch hit, three-run moonshot to left field.
Ringenberg finished the night 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI, while Muncy, Pinckard, Hainsfurther and Collins added two hits apiece for the Bears. The Bobcats were led at the plate by Garcia and Andrew Stumph, who both went 2-for-4 and drove in a run.
