BRYAN, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team shot 23-over (366-377=743) Saturday and sits in 10th place through two rounds of the Aggie Invitational at The Traditions Club Golf Course.
Host and sixth-ranked Texas A&M leads the 12-team field by 15 strokes at 23-under (346-351=697). Top-ranked Oklahoma State is second overall at 8-under (355-357=712). Texas Tech (7-under), San Diego State (2-under) and Texas (7-over) are currently in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Three individuals share the lead at 6-under 138 - San Diego State's Tom Berry, Texas A&M's Geoff Shaw and Oklahoma State's Kevin Tway. Kent State's Brett Cairns shot a second-round 10-under 62 to finish the day tied for sixth at 4-under 140.
Sophomore Joakim Mikkelsen shared the lead through the tournament's first 18 holes after firing a 5-under 67 during Saturday's first round. The Drammen, Norway, native shot a 3-over 75 in the second round to tie for 13th at 2-under (67-75=142). Mikkelsen added to his team-best total of 16 rounds of par or better and will look for his ninth top-25 finish during Sunday's final round.
Lorenzo Scotto is tied for 17th at even-par 144 after carding a second-round 1-under 71. One shot separates freshmen teammates Jerry Ruiz (73-77=150) and Ryan O'Rear (76-75=151), who are in 49th and 53rd, respectively.
Payne Gniewek shot 11-over (77-80=155 and is in 71st place through 36 holes. Junior Cody Paladino, who is making his first appearance in the Baylor lineup since the Border Olympics last month, is tied for 76th at 18-over (83-79=162).
The final round of the Aggie Invitational will begin Sunday with split-tee starts on holes No. 1 and No. 10 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. CDT. Baylor tee off the final round from the No. 10 hole, beginning at 8:40 a.m. CDT. Live scoring will be available at www.BaylorBears.com and www.GolfStatResults.com.
