COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Baylor Competitive Cheer held a slim lead through four events, but top-ranked Maryland came from behind to knock off the Bears, 274.941 to 271.181, on Sunday afternoon at the Comcast Center Pavilion.

"Wow, what a group of determined athletes we have," head coach Karry Forsythe said. "We are so impressed with the drive these young ladies showed this weekend and can't wait to get back in the gym and begin working on the next meet."

Maryland took an early lead by outscoring Baylor 39.7 to 39.44 in Compulsories, and the Terrapins extended their lead by winning the Stunt event 28.663 to 27.007.

Baylor rallied in the Pyramid event and scored a 29.1 to beat Maryland's score of 27.1 and give the Bears their first lead of the day, 124.447 to 123.663.

The Bears added on to their lead in the Basket Toss event, outscoring Maryland 28.9 to 28.2, but the Terrapins regained the lead by outscoring Baylor 53.99 to 51.71 in Tumbling to take a 177.653 to 176.157 lead into the final event.

Baylor lost flyer Katya Finta to an injury in Friday's win at Fairmont State, forcing the Bears to make a position change in two events.

"Crysten Timbes went from being a base to flying in two stunts today and that is just incredible," Forsythe said. "With Katya Finta going out on Friday, we had a lot of holes to fix and a lot of heats to change. The team stepped up and gave it a good fight."

Those holes proved to be too much, as Maryland outscored the Bears 97.288 to 95.024 in the Team Routine to win the meet by 3.76 points.

After splitting its first two matches of the season, Baylor has seven weeks to prepare for its next meet. The Bears return to action on Jan. 23 when Baylor welcomes No. 2 Oregon to the Ferrell Center for the first home meet in Baylor Competitive Cheer history.
