WACO, Texas (AP) - LaceDarius Dunn had 20 points in his second game back for Baylor (No. 10 ESPN/USA Today, No. 11 AP) while freshman Perry Jones had 16 points and 13 rebounds and the Bears beat Prairie View 90-45 on Monday night.
"I thought it was our best defensive effort of the season, holding them to 25 percent. I thought that really set the tone for things," said Baylor head coach Scott Drew. "Assist to turnover ratio, 19-5, was much better and much improved."
Dunn hit a 3-pointer on the first shot of the game and Baylor (5-0) never trailed.
Baylor improved to 38-0 against Southwestern Athletic Conference teams, including 3-0 this season. The Bears have won 16 of those games by at least 30 points.
Trant Simpson had 10 points and was the only player in double figures for Prairie View (1-7), which shot only 25 percent (15 of 59) and made only 3-of-17 3-pointers. Simpson got to double digits with a pair of 3-pointers in the closing minutes.
Dunn was 7-of-13 shooting with three 3-pointers. Quincy Acy added 13 points for Baylor and Nolan Dennis had 10.
Baylor led 47-15 at halftime after Dunn, who had 15 points and four steals by then, was part of two big runs.
Dunn sparked a 13-0 run with a free throw and a steal off a breakaway layup before Dennis scored six consecutive points to extend Baylor's lead to 26-7 midway through the first half.
After scoring two more buckets off his own steals, including a 3-pointer from the left wing, Dunn slipped inside for a tip-in that sparked a half-ending 10-0 run.
"I've been to a couple of NBA practices this year and I haven't even seen an NBA team that big," said Prairie View A&M head coach Byron Rimm II. "It was one of those games where our guys were shell-shocked."
Baylor finished the game with only five turnovers, just one before halftime. The Bears were averaging almost 23 turnovers a game.
Meanwhile, the Bears scored 26 points off 19 Prairie View turnovers and outscored the Panthers 18-0 in fastbreak points.
Baylor hosts Arizona State Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a game nationally televised on ESPN2 and ESPN2-HD.
"A lot of positives and now we move on to Arizona State and get prepared for that," Drew said.
