PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Junior Sona Novakova continued her hot streak at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships with a win before getting rained out in her second match at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
In her first match of the day, Novakova was able to break the serve of FSU's Katie Rybakova to stay in the first set. Without holding serve, Novakova was able to force and win a tiebreak. In the second set, she found her serve and executed to win the set 6-3.
"Sona competed really hard in the first set, even though she wasn't executing at a high level," head coach Joey Scrivano said. "But, in the tiebreak, she really found her game and played up to her ability the rest of the match. Rybakova is an experienced player, who is not easy to beat."
Novakova was on serve, down 4-3, in her second match to Stanford's Mallory Burdette when pouring rain hit the area. The two will continue their match on Wednesday morning.
