MANSFIELD, Texas - Senior Sergio Ramirez and sophomore Roberto Maytin each won their third straight match on Monday at the Walnut Creek Country Club to advance out of the Futures of Mansfield qualifying draw and into the main draw of the USTA Pro Circuit event.

"I am just so pleased that those guys are working hard and getting a lot of good matches," head coach Matt Knoll said. "Both guys have been fighting and I think they have really improved over the course of the tournament."

Ramirez opened his third day in the tournament by taking down American Nick Chappell, 7-5, 6-4. The Columbia native has now won 11 of 15 matches this season. In the first round of the 32-man main draw Ramirez will play former Longhorn Joshua Zavala on Wednesday.

"Sergio has just been really resilient," Knoll said. "It was a tough match in which momentum shifted back and forth and he just hung in there. He did a great job of finding a way to win."

Maytin was equally as solid as Ramirez in a 6-3, 6-2 win over freshman teammate Robert Verzaal. Maytin is slated to face the No. 1 seed in the main draw, Artem Sitak of Russia. Sitak is currently ranked No. 326 in the world by the ATP

"Bobby (Maytin) played better and better," Knoll said. "He didn't have a great first match, but really picked it up and played well the last two matches. It is great to see him improving every match.

The loss ends Verzaal's run, after he went 2-1 in the tournament with a win against the event's No. 2 seed, Christian Guevara, on Sunday.

"It was a huge week for Woody (Verzaal)," Knoll said. "He did have the best win of his life and really played some exceptional tennis. It is certainly something he is going to be able to build on for the rest of the season."

Former Baylor All-American Denes Lukacs will also be in the main draw at the Futures of Mansfield. The Eger, Hungary, product, is currently ranked No. 1199 by the ATP. Lukacs will face Andrea Collarini of the United States in first round action.
