Paladino Shoots First-Round 76 at U.S. Amateur

TULSA, Okla. - Baylor men's golf junior Cody Paladino shot an opening-round 6-over 76 Monday at the 109th U.S. Amateur Championship at Cedar Ridge Country Club. Paladino, eight strokes back of the leader, is tied with 34 other golfers for 114th overall.

Germantown, Tenn., native Tim Jackson is the overall stroke play leader after carding a 2-under 68. Four golfers are tied for second at 1-under 69.

Paladino finished the front nine with a 1-under 34, including a birdie on the par-4 No. 12 hole. On the back nine, the Kensington, Conn., bogeyed two of the first three holes. After a bogey on the par-4 No. 1, Paladino posted a double-bogey on No. 3 before birdying the par-4 No. 4. Double-bogeys on Nos. 5 and 7, as well as another bogey on No. 8, dropped Paladino to 7-over par on the back nine holes.

Paladino will tee off the second round of stroke play Tuesday at 12:55 p.m. CT on the No. 1 tee at the par-70 Southern Hills Country Club. Following the conclusion of Tuesday's second round of stroke play, the top 64 scores will advance to match play Wednesday.
