WACO, Texas -- No. 13 Oklahoma blasted four home runs and scored in five consecutive innings en route to a 12-4 victory over ninth-ranked Baylor in Saturday's Big 12 Conference action at Baylor Ballpark. Baylor (25-16, 10-9) has lost five straight, while Oklahoma (32-11, 10-7) clinched its first-ever series victory in Waco after Friday's 4-2 win.
Aaron Baker got the homerun barrage started, blasting a two-run shot over the batter's eye to snap a scoreless tie in the top of the third. J.T. Wise followed with a solo homer to left-center.
Baylor answered with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning. Gregg Glime led off the frame with a double, and Raynor Campbell drew a one-out walk. Dustin Dickerson followed with an RBI single through the right side, pushing Campbell to third. Hansen bounced out to second, but Campbell scored on the play.
That was as close as the Bears would get, though. Oklahoma pushed its lead to 5-2 in the fourth on consecutive RBI doubles from Matt Harughty and Jamie Johnson. After Chris Ellison's two-run double in the fifth, Hansen delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Bryant Hernandez blasted a two-run homer in the top of the sixth, pushing the Sooners' lead to 9-3.
Adam Hornung led off the sixth with a solo homer to right-center. That pushed the Bears' school record for consecutive games with at least one homer to 14 games.
Oklahoma capped the scoring in the top of the seventh, plating three runs on two hits and an error. Harughty scored the first run with an RBI groundout, and Johnson followed with a two-run homer.
Starter Garrett Richards (6-1) earned the victory for the Sooners; he allowed four runs on five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Chase Anderson worked 2.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts, and Michael Rocha tossed a perfect ninth. Oklahoma pitchers retired nine consecutive Baylor batters to close the game after Hornung's leadoff homer in the sixth.
Baylor starter Aaron Miller (3-2) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 4.0 innings. Miller also was stymied at the plate, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts to snap his 15-game hitting streak.
Four players produced multiple-hit games for the Sooners, who tallied 14 hits on the day. Johnson and Wise had three hits each; Johnson was a single shy of the cycle. Dickerson had Baylor's only two-hit game.
Baylor and Oklahoma conclude the series Sunday at 1:30 p.m. CDT. The Bears will send either right-hander Willie Kempf (4-2, 5.40 ERA) or right-hander Shawn Tolleson (0-0, 4.25 ERA) to the mound. The Sooners are slated to start right-hander Antwonie Hubbard (2-2, 2.81 ERA).
NOTES: Baylor leads the all-time series 32-30, including a 21-12 advantage in games played in Waco. The Bears are 21-19 against Oklahoma during the Big 12 era; the series is tied 19-19 in regular-season meetings. Baylor is 22-24 against Oklahoma during head coach Steve Smith's tenure. ... Saturday's game marked the just the second time since the 2001 Baylor-Oklahoma series that either team scored more than six runs in a game at Baylor Ballpark.
