WACO, Texas - The No. 3 Baylor equestrian team will host Ohio State and Southern Methodist at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
In Hunter Seat, the 12-4 Lady Bears will take on the 5-9 Mustangs. SMU is coming off of two consecutive losses to Auburn (7-3) and Fresno State (7-5). In their previous meeting on Jan. 31, Baylor defeated SMU 4-2, clenching the all-time series record at 2-0.
In Equitation over Fences, senior Nicole Brown leads with 12 wins and three MVP honors. Freshman Lisa Goldman follows close behind, winning eight of her last nine matches. Kara Fergusson, Heather Healy and Kara Fergusson will also ride, while Katie Ross competes in her first match of the season.
Senior Cara Wilson posted two winning rides and one MVP honor in Equitation on the Flat at the Big 12 Championships last weekend, advancing her season total to nine wins. Shelby White has won three of her last four matches, while Mary Smitson has eight wins and two MVP honors. Margaret Beaudoin, Healy and Whitney McIlvain will also compete.
In Western riding, Baylor will compete against the Ohio State, a sports club that is affiliated with the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). OSU was recently named the 2009 Zone 6 Region 1 Champions.
Junior Allison Orosz leads Horsemanship with four MVP honors and winning seven of her last eight matches. Lindsey Tomko tallied two consecutive wins at the Big 12 Championships, earning MVP honors against Kansas State. Lindsay Douglas, Nicole McCoy and Meghan Murphy will also ride for Baylor.
Freshman Amber Mooney went 2-0 last weekend in Stillwater, posting the only winning rides for Baylor in Reining. Katie Buss, Madelyn Mooney, Valtie Riddle and Michelle Reynolds will also show Saturday.
