WACO, Texas - The No. 1 Baylor equestrian team will host the fourth-ranked Auburn Tigers at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. The Lady Bears are 11-2 on the season and 5-1 in Big 12 play.
"We haven't lost all spring and we don't plan on starting now," head coach Ellen White said. "The girls are ready and looking good. We are ready to compete against Auburn, bring home our win and continue to prove why we are number one."
In their most recent competition, the Lady Bears beat No. 8 Kansas State 10-6, advancing to six consecutive wins. The Tigers are coming off two consecutive losses to No. 2 Georgia (12-7) and No. 5 South Carolina (10-8), but they still hold the all-time series record at 2-1.
Baylor Hunter Seat is 11-2 on the season, but 0-3 when facing Auburn. Equitation over Fences will be led by senior Nicole Brown, who is 10-3 with two consecutive MVP honors and five-time MVP Lisa Goldman. Heather Healy, Kara Fergusson and Kendra Vicary will also ride.
In Equitation on the Flat, Senior Shelby White earned her third MVP honor of the season against Kansas State, while junior Mary Smitson boasts a three-match winning streak and is 8-4 this season. Cara Wilson, Heather Healy and Margaret Beaudoin will also compete.
In Western riding, the Lady Bears are 3-2 against the Tigers. In Horsemanship, Allison Orosz has garnered three MVP honors this season, along with a five-match winning streak. Lindsey Tomko, Lindsay Douglas, Meghan Murphy and Nicole McCoy will also ride.
Reining is led by junior Madelyn Mooney with her four MVP honors, and sophomore Katie Buss with her 8-3 record. Valtie Riddle, Amber Mooney and Kim Marlowe will all show Saturday.
