Hornung, Bears Blast HBU 15-4

WACO, Texas - Adam Hornung was 3-for-3 with two home runs, and Aaron Miller was 2-for-3 with a homer as No. 6 Baylor cruised to a 15-4 victory over Houston Baptist in midweek action Wednesday night at Baylor Ballpark. Baylor (4-1) concluded a season-opening, five-game home stand with the win.

After Houston Baptist (0-4) scored a run in the top of the second, Hornung tied the game with a one-out solo shot down the right-field line. The Bears took control of the game with in the fourth inning, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs in the frame on just three hits.

Baylor added a run in the fifth to push its lead to 9-1. Dustin Dickerson walked to open the sixth and later scored on Miller's one-out homer to right-center. Hornung followed with his second round-tripper of the evening. The Bears pushed two runs across in the seventh before HBU's Andrew Taccolini belted a three-run homer in the top of the eight. Baylor capped the scoring in the bottom of the eighth.

Freshman Trent Blank (1-0) allowed one run on four hits and a walk with nine strikeouts over 5.0 innings in his first career start for the win. Kevin Winter and Max Garner worked 1.0 scoreless inning each, and Reed Woytek retired the game's final six batters in order.

HBU starter Jay Reese (0-1) took the loss; he allowed six runs, four earned, on four hits and five walks with two strikeouts over 3.1 innings.

Joey Hainsfurther was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Dickerson was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Hornung finished with three RBI and scored three times. All nine Baylor starters reached safely at least once.

Baylor returns to action this weekend at the Houston College Classic. The Bears face Houston at 3:30 p.m. CST Friday, No. 9 UCLA at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and No. 10 Rice at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

NOTES: Baylor leads the all-time series 2-1; all three meetings were in Waco. €¦ Baylor is 41-21 all-time against Division I Independents. €¦ Hornung became the first Baylor player with multiple home runs in a game since he accomplished the feat April 23, 2008, at Texas State. €¦ Wednesday marked the second time in four games that Baylor players have hit back-to-back home runs. Shaver Hansen and Raynor Campbell accomplished the feat last Saturday against Pacific. €¦ Dickerson extended his hitting streak to four games.
