Soccer Lands 13 On Academic All-Big 12 Team

IRVING, Texas - Thirteen members of the Baylor soccer team were named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team, setting a new program record, the Big 12 Conference announced Tuesday.

Baylor's 13 student-athletes were the third most by any school, however, the Bears had more first-team honorees than any other program.

Beckah Brady, Hannah Dismuke, Megan Humke, Brittany Hunemuller, Lindsay Johnson, Bethany Johnston (one of 11 with a perfect 4.00 GPA), Betsy Kyle, Allie Moran, Gianna Quintana, Lucy Quintana, Lotto Smith, Nicky Smith and Katie White all earned first team honors.

Brady (Sr., applied mathematics), Humke (Sr., communication science disorders), Kyle (Sr., Pre-Physical Therapy) and White (Sr., accounting) each earned their third selections to the academic all-conference squad.

Johnson (Jr., marketing), Lucy Quintana (Jr., pre-medicine) and Gianna Quintana (Sr., pre-medicine each earned their second selection to the academic team.

Dismuke (So., pre-business), Hunemuller (So., pre-business), Johnston (So., biochemistry), Moran (Jr., pre-physical therapy), Lotto Smith (Jr., fashion merchandising) and Nicky Smith (Sr., management) each earned their first selection to the academic team.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the soccer academic all-league squad consisted of 84 first team members combined with 19 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
