The No. 6 Baylor (2-4) equestrian team could not overcome an early deficit, falling to No. 9 New Mexico State (4-1) 10-5 Friday at the NM State Equestrian Center.

NMSU took an early 3-0 lead, winning three of the four in Equitation on the Flat. Mary Smitson tied Jennifer Friend to keep the Aggies from picking up the sweep.

Baylor picked up a pair of points in Equitation over Fences, earning a 2-2 tie. Heather Healy picked up a 77-74 win, while Kendra Vicary continued her perfect season, winning 86-70 and taking home MVP honors.

Trailing 5-2 after Hunt Seat, the Bears tried to regain the lead in Horsemanship. Lindsey Tomko and Allison Orosz led off with wins, but NMSU picked up the final two to keep the lead at three, 7-4.

Needing a sweep for the win, Madelyn Mooney led off Reining with a 68-65.5 win. However, that would be the only point Baylor would pick up, as the Aggies' riders would pick up the final three points en route to a 10-5 win.

Baylor will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon to take on No. 4 South Carolina beginning at 2:00 p.m.
