WACO, Texas - Baylor head men's golf coach Greg Priest announced the signing of Niclas Mansson to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010-11 academic year Thursday.
"We are looking forward to Niclas joining us next year," Priest said. "Not only is he a great golfer, but he is also an exceptional young man. He will fit in nicely with our team."
Mansson, a native from Halmstad, Sweden, is currently attending the Swedish Golf Federations high school in Klippan-Ljungbyhed, Sweden. At the age of 14, he was the youngest Club Champion winner. In 2009, he established a course record at Ekerum Golf and Resort with a personal low 4-under 69.
At the 2009 PGA Championship in Sweden, Mansson finished eighth at the par-72, 7,660-yard course and was the only amateur to make the cut. He is listed as the best Swedish amateur on both the Swedish SAS-Masters Tour and the Nordic League ranking in 2009. Mansson led his club team to a Swedish Division II title in 2009 and advancement to Division I. He made eight consecutive birdies in four ball, two consecutive eagles in single and 23 putts during the final round to help lift his team to the division title.
The Baylor men's golf team will open its spring schedule Feb. 15-16, 2010, at the UTSA Oak Hill Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
