WACO, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team will start its spring season on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 9 a.m. when it hosts Southern Methodist and Delaware State.
The Lady Bears are 5-2 this season and have clenched the fourth place spot in the Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Poll for four consecutive poll releases.
Baylor enters the double-header after a two month break. In its most recent competition on Nov. 22, the Lady Bears crushed No. 2 Texas A&M 15-5.
Competing for the Baylor in Equitation on the Flat will be Shelby White, Mary Smitson, Cara Wilson, Heather Healy and Margaret Beaudoin. Nicole Brown, Lisa Goldman, Kendra Vicary, Kara Fergusson and Heather Healy will ride in Equitation over Fences.
In Western riding, representing Baylor in Horsemanship will be Lindsey Tomko, Lindsay Douglas, Nicole McCoy, Allison Orosz and Meghan Murphy. The Reining riders will include, Katie Buss, Amber Mooney, Madelyn Mooney, Valtie Riddle and Michelle Reynolds.
Southern Methodist only fields an English team and is ranked No. 11 in the coaches poll. The Mustangs most recent victory was on Nov. 23 when they upset No. 3 Georgia 7-5, improving their season record to 2-7.
Delaware State enters the competition in the No. 12 spot after losing to the first place Auburn Tigers on Jan. 24 (17-2), dropping their season record to 3-4.
