NO. 5/4 BAYLOR (17-1, 5-0) 76, TEXAS TECH (11-7, 2-3) 64
UNITED SPIRIT ARENA - LUBBOCK, TEXAS
JAN. 24, 2009 - ATTENDANCE: 10,149

Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey

On her team's overall performance:
"It's so difficult to play on the road especially in this conference and to go on the road twice this week and walk away with two wins is big for our team and program."

On the half court execution on both ends of the floor:
"In spurts, I thought in the first half we couldn't guard anyone off the dribble. We didn't get any leadership from our point guard in the first half and I challenged (Kelli) Griffin at half time and she was a different player the second half and really led her ball club the second half.

On Danielle Wilson's performance today:
"She almost had 20 rebounds tonight. She was big for us all night, altering shots, getting boards, she's just a different kid now. It's the new Danielle."

On how resilient this team is to adversity:
"We have had to deal with a lot of things. But I always say, after immediate family, your basketball program is your next in line. We've all helped each other out with anything in our lives and we just want to keep winning and making Baylor proud."

On Dominic Seals not scoring the second half after 11 points in the first half:
"(Dominic) Seals is one of their most consistent players with (Jordan) Murphree, and Danielle (Wilson) tried to alter and block some shots and we covered down low better the second half and that allowed her to not beat us off the dribble as much. (Jessica) Morrow did a good job of making sure (Jordan) Murphree was contested every time. Those two are key to Tech's team and I think the two that were assigned to them for us did a great job defensively on them."

Baylor Guard Jhasmin Player

On playing on the road in a tough conference:
"Our defense really helps and it kind of failed us the first half. Danielle (Wilson) stepped up and some others just stepped up real big tonight for us especially down the stretch."

On guarding Maria Moore:
"She is just so fast so you can't try to beat her but just contain her. She hit some big shots and just did a great job for her team tonight."

Baylor Center Danielle Wilson

On her performance:
"I have to help my team in anyway possible especially on the road. I just kept trying to be active on the defensive side, it's all about the team concept."

On Coach Mulkey's comments about her being a `new player':
"I really think it's just a combination of maturing and knowing the system. I am continuing to get stronger in the off-season and I'm really just focusing on becoming a better basketball player overall."

Texas Tech Head Coach Kristy Curry

On the back and forth runs down the stretch in the second half:
"They're so good with big plays at critical times. I thought their seniors showed a level of toughness down the stretch. I believe our game was lost by us in the beginnings of the first and second half and that is not them but us. We did it to ourselves today."

On Danielle Wilson's play:
"I definitely think she's much improved and you expect to see that in a second-year player. I think the biggest thing is she knows she is `the one'. In that program, it is all about a post presence. She knows now she's the go-to and she's really stepped up big."

On the team's strong spurts:
"I think that's the thing that I'm most disappointed in this week. Our energy level dies and is very inconsistent. We have to have it for longer periods of time. The margin for error is very little against such a legitimate top five team like Baylor. Our mental energy, especially, has to be better."

On Coach Kay Yow and her mark left on the collegiate women's game:
"She's given so much to all of us. She never treated me any different from the time I met her, as a 23-year-old assistant, to 20 years later. Her love and passion for life is just tremendous. She gave a lot and will be missed by so many of us and all we can do is give like she did to the game and to many young ladies. We're going to find a cure for cancer and we are going to do everything we can as a women's basketball program for her."

On the upcoming game at Colorado:
"Every game is tough. Never do we look at records or ever underestimate anyone. We're most worried about Texas Tech right now and if we don't have better energy mentally at Colorado then we'll have a long night home Wednesday night."

Texas Tech Guard Maria Moore

On the overall performance:
"I felt that it was more on us not so much what they were doing on us, defensively. If we run through our plays and execute, I think it would've been different."
